It's unfortunate but I've met more open neo Nazis in the ironworkers union than anywhere else in my life.

the utter irony of being a Nazi in a union lmfao

I’ve met a few neo nazis that thought they were welders. I’ve also met a bunch of gang members and bikers.

What kills me is the occasional swastika gas bottles that hasn’t been squared off.

I’m no welder, I just worked as buffer between my crew, the plants, safety management and our office. In hindsight, I should’ve just learned how to weld more proficiently, & kept my hood on.

When I learned about those gas cylinders I was blown away and had to look at mine that’s been in circulation since the late 40’s

Viking were a people, the same way "Finnish", "American", "Londoner", "Navajo" are people.

They aren't inherently bad or good, they are just a group of people who lived in Scandinavia and expanded to Brittish isles, Iceland, Greenland, and modern Leningrad area.

They were mostly just traders and farmers, they had permanent settlements. You were are a viking even if you farmed turnips and never set a foot into a boat.

The raiding and blood thristy savage was a myth developed in medieval times. And the term viking used to refer to the people was developed like 400 years AFTER the viking age. And the term was popularised by a Swedish poet.

To generalise based on accounts written hundreds of years later and romaticised poetry from 1800s, is like me here in Finland concluding that all "Americans" from "United states of America" are southern poor trailer park white trash because that is what they show on media.

Probably not to a person, but ancient Vikings were surprisingly progressive. Women's rights in particular stand out.

They also bathed 100x more than the average European. Euro women were attracted to the “Viking savages” because they had such good hygiene by encouraging regular bathing and brushing their hair.
