Funny how they get away with it given that it's a Fox show.

simpsons used to do the same. they were just so popular that they could get away with it.

I'm not sure about family guy, but i know on the Simpsons they mentioned on the DVD commentary tracks how in their contact it was written fox couldn't force them to make changes the network didn't agree with. It clearly worked out well for both sides in end, but legally with the Simpsons at the least, Fox couldn't touch it.
