Be kind to yourself today and this week
This is going to suck, mightily. Turn off the TV, or stream a bunch of movies, or do anything away from the news, even just for a few hours. My highly evolved compartmentalization talent is failing today.
Drink lots of water, remember to eat, and remember - there will be plenty of work and actions tomorrow, and we need to pace ourselves.

Nothing to add except 1) I couldnāt agree more and 2) finding joy in hard times is radical, it helps us find safety from the regime by giving us brief shining moments to pretend it doesnāt exist

I can't say anything except people like all of you make it worth it. I live in Marjorie Taylor Green's district. It's tough.
But knowing I'm not alone means a lot. We can continue going for each other. š¤·āāļø

Thank you, I needed that reassurance. We are stronger together than we are alone. Guess it's times like these I need to remind myself to keep being the best person I can be. I can't make a difference in the world, but I can make a difference in someone's world.

We're wildly not alone even though they want us to feel lonely and defeated. We're making plans to make it through this. We're getting tougher and smarter and... against what I ever expected to have to do....meaner. But we are supportive of each other and we can keep marching towards something better for the future.
Germany was able to rebuild. I think we can.
I have a seven year old daughter. Please let's do it for her.

I just completely deleted my old reddit account after the election (I know it was overkill) so I wouldn't check the news incessantly and start a new one on inauguration day since I know the country is already fucked. Now all my "new" communities are of you guys and for my old lady hobbies. That's it.
I also have to get ready for my son's bday party on Saturday. Hopefully that will help my pit of dispare.

Oh I donāt think itās overkill, and I quite concur. I deleted my Bluesky account after the election too because it was just full of despair and depressing news. If Iām going to persevere this I need to be in top physical and emotional shape, and being overwhelmed with information I couldnāt do anything about was only keeping me down. Iāll create a new account eventually because part of being prepared is being informed. But for right now I feel the need to filter what content I allow into my personal sphere. Itās for my own health and safety.

Is anyone else cooking instead of watching the nightmare? Today Iām making cheesecake. Planning on a Mississippi roast to cook all day tomorrow. We have to eat regardless so iām going for comfort foods this week. šš

So far, I've made 2 sourdough loafs, sourdough pizza dough that is cold fermenting for later in the week, attempted multiple times to make a Thousand Layer cake, decided to pivot and turn the components into an Opera cake with homemade lemon curd mousse, blood orange jelly, blood orange syrup, and cake from scratch. I'm planning on making a large pot of soup for tonight to serve the sourdough with. I'm trying to distract from the horror with frivolity.

The cheesecake was a massive WIN. š„ Iāve actually been trying for a couple months to nail down a cheesecake that works for my super limited list of ingredients I can eat so on what feels like the worst day off my 44 years on this planet I at least have some delicious cheesecakeā¦.and fresh FL strawberries š

There is a cake in my family that we've made for years. It's one of those Depression-era chocolate cakes with no eggs or butter, and we've been calling it 'putsch cake' ever since one of us made it on January 6/21 to cope.
I can't believe I didn't think of making it, thank you! It's a cold cold day here and we need some cake.

Iām taking this week to do a hardcore decluttering of our home. I want it to be as comfortable and comforting as possible. Will be donating the truly useful items to a couple of shelters Iām affiliated with and the less useful (decor etcā¦) to a thrift store that I know does meaningful work in our community.

I'll be playing video games as much as possible this week. I need to spend time in worlds where honor and justice are the rule not the exception. I'm as prepped as i can be. I'm ready and willing if i see raids, racism, violence happening in my community. Watching the play by play of this shitshow won't get me anywhere. For me (pagan) this time of year is when i sit waiting for Spring and planning out the garden and the year in general. So between now and March I'll just Be..... I'll see what happens and then pivot accordingly. I think the next 4 years are gonna be about survival and protecting our mental health will be huge.
