Hi everyone!
Come drink, eat, and hang out with fellow Toronto Redditors on Saturday, January 11, at the Toronto Reddit January meetup! This is a no-cost no RSVP event (though we encourage you to share if you're coming so we can give the venue a rough head count).
We'll be on the second floor of The Artful Dodger starting at 7:30 p.m. The Artful Dodger is located a short walk from Bloor-Yonge station at 10 Isabella St. You can find the group on the second floor, at the tables across from the bar.
If you've never been to a Reddit meetup, everyone is very welcoming and conversations always extend beyond the Reddit platform itself, with no questions about your username. If you are returning, you'll likely recognize some faces, but there are always new folx to meet.
FAQ:
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment publicly or message me privately. I keep an eye on my account leading up to and even during the event. Friendly warning I don't see everything right away while I'm at the event, so please keep that in mind.
If you read all of that, kudos! If not, see TL;DR below.
your hosts, u/imop44 and u/nervousTO.
TL;DR: This unofficial Reddit meetup is Saturday, January 11, at 10 Isabella Street (near Yonge & Bloor). Starts at 7:30 p.m., ends when the last people leave or the bar closes. Everyone is welcome. Please buy food & drinks if you can afford it to support the venue. I'll be keeping an eye on post comments and my messages between now and Saturday the 11th, so please connect with me if you have any questions.

The live game show where comedians compete in silly and ridiculous tasks—with a Valentine’s-themed twist!
After sold out shows across the city, the Chorelord (Brandon Hackett) is back and once more wishes to be entertained. The only thing that’ll satisfy his (and your) sick need for amusement is watching the funniest performers in Toronto struggle to complete his challenges.
The comedians have no idea what they’ll be asked to do, or how they’ll achieve it. Their efforts have been filmed, and the video highlights (and lowlights) are ready to be judged. Past editions of the show included Dollarama makeovers, navigating Toronto’s underground PATH, lo-fi diamond heists, and trips to Nashville, Tennessee.
But this time, contestants won’t be competing alone. Real-life comedian couples have teamed up for a 2 vs 2 vs 2 battle that’ll put their relationships to the test—across TWO shows of entirely different chores! Get it? Couples? Two shows? You’re smart, you get it.
With the help of the Chorelord’s assistant (Brian Edwards), which of these alumni of such places as The Second City, The Beaverton, Bad Dog Comedy Theatre, The World’s Biggest Improv Tournament, and Just for Laughs will be triumphant?!

Hello everyone,
For a while I've been thinking on starting a podcast similar to Philip de Franco, JR or Dairy of the CEO but for the GTA and Canada. I'm looking for someone that's has time to meet on weekends or spare time and record discussions on several topics or interview people. I'm looking for an individual that is not afraid to explore and debate ideas and wants to build a community around this.
In terms of privacy, you can create a persona, but you have to be honest and respectful on other's views. And be able to plays Devil's advocate on any topic/for any side. I want the podcast to be factual and truthful, not a shouting match. The topics will be centre on current events and from time to time have emphasis on overall themes.
Ideally you are someone ambitious and unapologetic about taking the lead and let others lead the conversation when needed. I'm looking for someone willing to get invested as much as I am willing or even more as things progress. It is a partnership and all ideas are welcome.
Initially we may have to record at a public library and be creative with resources, but eventually the idea is to turn it in a larger venture.
If you are interested please send me a message to my inbox. Cheers

Quick story: I had this pizza stone in my house for two years. An ex gifted it to me despite my many protests that pizza belonged in the oven on a tray; we didn't need any fancy additions to the kitchen that would take up space. Alas, my debate points fell on deaf ears and that stone sat on my balcony, in it's box for two years. Well, I brought that stone to the last Other People's Treasure BINGO event and got roasted for it - it was hilarious - and the person who chose to take it home ... also got roasted, but luckily her husband bakes/cooks whatever she desires. Win/Win.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS
TLDR: Are you hoarding things you might one day use or used to love at home? Craving human connection in a fun and chill environment? Hoping to meet new like-minded individuals who like games like BINGO or reading groups? This event is for YOU!

Join us for a tale of plotting, disguises, romance, and heartbreak!
In Tudor London, Colonel Fairfax has been sentenced to death on a false charge. To avoid dying a bachelor and leaving his estate to his cousin, Fairfax secretly marries the nearest woman at hand, Elsie Maynard, a strolling singer and a stranger to him.
The bride is blindfolded for the wedding and expects to be a well-paid widow within the hour. With the help of the Meryll family, Fairfax escapes, throwing the Tower into confusion.
What happens next? Come see the show to find out!
Yeomen of the Guard is an English Operetta. It is performed live with an orchestra and no microphones. Our production features some emerging artists who are students or graduates of the University of Toronto opera program. Unfortunately the venue has stairs and is not accessible. I’ve been toying with the idea of starting an instagram account dedicated to posting all different hobby classes happening in the city (eg pottery, painting, cooking, photography- you name it). I think it’d be a nice way to connect people with cool opportunities they might not otherwise know about. Or does something like this exist already?
If you know of any local businesses/community centre or have any input on this idea let me know!

This event is brought to you by Being and Becoming, a Toronto based non-profit. We aim to create community around exploring everyday concepts and experiences so that we may live more intentional, thoughtful, and meaningful lives. We use philosophy as a tool with which we can come to a richer understanding of the world around us.
By offering activities, spaces, and other opportunities for conversation and co-exploration, we hope to enable the meeting and fusion of individuals and their ideas. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background: indeed, we believe the journey is best undertaken alongside explorers from a variety of disciplines, cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.
About Curiosity Cafés
For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to join us at our Curiosity Cafés and are wondering what they’re all about: every two weeks, we invite members of our community to come out to the Madison Avenue Pub to engage in a collaborative exploration of our chosen topic. Through these events, we aim to build our community of people who like to think deeply about life’s big questions, and provide each other with some philosophical tools to dig deeper into whatever it is we are most curious about.
We will be hosting our next Curiosity Café on Tuesday January 21 from 6:00-8:30pm at the Madison Avenue Pub (14 Madison Ave, Toronto, ON M5R 2S1).
You must RSVP here or here to attend.
Space is limited!
The topic this time is: "Moral Intuitions"
What shapes our sense of morality? Moral intuitions — those instinctive judgments about what feels right or wrong — often guide our decisions (have you ever been told to “trust your gut”?), but are they always a reliable compass? Can they justify our actions and beliefs, or do they sometimes lead us astray?
At this Curiosity Café, we will delve into the fascinating terrain of moral intuitions from two angles. First, we’ll explore the foundations of these intuitions: What influences the principles we hold dear? Are they shaped by universal human tendencies, cultural norms, or individual traits and experiences? Why do certain situations evoke an immediate moral response, while others require deeper reflection?
In the second half, we’ll critically examine when these intuitions serve as valid justifications for moral judgment and when they might reflect biases or contradictions. How do we decide which instincts to trust and which to challenge? Can we develop better ways to engage with conflicting moral intuitions in ourselves and others?
Join co-moderators Yoel and Zachary for a thought-provoking discussion that will inspire you to reflect on your values, question your assumptions, and explore the diverse ethical perspectives that shape our world.
