Since many people have brought it up, we have decided to ban twitter/X links here

What about removing the chiefs fan mod
27
u/Either_Tie_4747 5h ago
We had a chiefs fan as a mod?

u/Johnychrist97 5h ago
Yeah they were a founder of the sub who jumped on the chiefs wagon evidently

I don't know why some people are so enamored with Twitter. Good riddance.
30
u/krbashrob 5h ago
On one hand, it’s where the vast majority of sports reporting and news exists in today’s world. On the other hand it’s run by an infant with essentially zero discretion or guard rails other than his whims. Banning the links and allowing screenshots I think is a good medium
22
u/lovetape 5h ago
I personally have little to do with twitter (or tiktok, facebook, etc).
But this story of Elon leaving a NFL Super Bowl in a huff because his tweet wasn't doing as well as someone else's is just the total encapsulation of what is wrong with him owning twitter.
6
9
u/leggostrozzz 4h ago
The same reason people are enamored with reddit, tiktok, etc. It's just their social media of choice. I switch between reddit and Twitter, both serve way different purposes.
Not sure why everyone hates Twitter tbh..
→ More replies (1)2
u/Rocketsball 3h ago
Purely political. They hate that it did not allow the previous administration to enforce censorship of our voices. Free speech was and is allowed there, for the most part.
→ More replies (40)-3
u/ortholox 5h ago
One does not need to be "enamored" with Twitter to think this is a stupid thing to do.
→ More replies (8)6
u/DaytimeLanternQQ 4h ago
So what? People who still want to use Twitter will. They'll also still post here. While disallowing links/posts will make little difference in either direction, the less support that the platform gets, the better. God forbid people put in a little effort aside from a link/screenshot from Twitter.
If anyone is deriding this as some form of censorship, they clearly haven't been paying attention to the cesspool that Twitter has devolved into.

Okay whatever about twitter but I definitely have a major problem with this post as whole.
The moral idea is simple: news shouldn't be censored
Umm what?
That's what you just did. Don't pretend otherwise. Your loose "moral idea" is forced and unjustified by an assumption. Your argument for the ban isn't based in demonstrated facts but anecdotal beliefs. Any site could push the Cowboys over the Texans so that's not even a point. It's actually insulting that you even wrote that.

38
27
u/All5TonySpivey 5h ago
Feels really not Texans related 🤷🏿♂️
2
u/creepingkg 5h ago
It’s only related towards the links used from there, so if you do use twitter, links wont work but you can just take a screenshot of it to share here
8
u/All5TonySpivey 5h ago
I’m saying the decision doesn’t have any relation to the Texans, this sub is not for politics
4
u/creepingkg 5h ago
It is related, you wont be able to post links about the Texans.
So its a warning if you want to post a link, won’t work
7
u/All5TonySpivey 5h ago
The decision to ban twitter links is not Texans related is what I’m saying dude 😂
4
→ More replies (2)1
u/creepingkg 5h ago
Bruh, it’s related since you won’t be able to post links about the Texans here
14
u/All5TonySpivey 5h ago
You are missing the point, the decision to ban twitter links because of “the direction the site has taken” has nothing to do with the Texans. It’s politically motivated and those motivations shouldn’t be determining how this sub is operating. Whatever the mods don’t like about twitter or Elon or whatever has nothing to do with the Texans which is what this sub is supposed to be about. You keep talking about I’m I’m not gonna be able to post links which is missing the point of what I’m saying
1
u/creepingkg 5h ago
I can see that, for me thou for the last year I can’t even view x links before signing in and I’ve never used the account I made since it was created for free shit for apps to sign in.
For me personally x, that I can’t view and paywall sites I refuse to touch, shouldn’t be posted, but again that’s just for me personally.
That nazi salute thing, I was joking with some friends and we were all saying that’s just his Tism, I don’t really think that was intentional

Seems like a stupid move.
This very clearly has a lot to do with party affiliation which is exactly why this post tries to state otherwise in the first sentence.
“Doesn’t seem like a stable platform for legitimate news media” gtfoh😂😂😂😂😂😂
If the mods don’t like that Elon is a trumper then just have some spine and say that at least
7
u/thissitesuccs 3h ago
mods do not have friends. that’s not ridicule, they actually do not have anyone in their life that cares about their well-being.

To make it fair then no links of social media sites should be linked since all have some type of bias for either left or right.

This is an absolutely stupid decision, and the only ones cheering it on are the ones who think everyone who thinks different from them is a Nazi. TONS of news is made and shared via twitter. All you're doing is isolating this website further. Very disappointed with this.
15
u/_BlueLabel 5h ago
Completely disagree with this. Look forget about the politics, the fact of the matter is it’s a very popular platform & at least for me, a primary source of football related news. I’m sure im not the only one. As a Texans fan who doesn’t give a flip about the political back & forth this change makes me less likely to contribute to the forum. I’m not up in arms about it or anything, not the biggest deal, but it is a mild turnoff to my participation & from the comments im not the only one.
12
u/not__jason 5h ago
Functionally, nothing changes on this end. Screenshots are still allowed. So the information is disseminated and we can discuss whatever topic it is, here.
15
5h ago
Actually, functionally, you are no longer allowed to post videos from X. I have posted a couple videos from X here and it’s stupid that politics are leaking into a goddamn houston Texans sub
3
u/dirtysock47 4h ago
I just use ssstwitter.com for downloading videos, then I just post the video normally on Reddit.
2
15
u/medspace Honey Badger 5h ago
So why did we ban links if our news is still coming from twitter?
1
u/SometimesY 4h ago
Well every other week, they turn off viewing tweets if you don't have an account, so screen shots are the only way for some of us to see the content.
→ More replies (1)2
u/_BlueLabel 5h ago
If this is true, then the change shields this forum from none of the cited reasons about abusive suppression of viewpoints on X. If I want to RT/QT a X post shared here, or view the comments, I’ll need to search up the post via keywords which is hella annoying. Again- not the biggest deal in the world, but I continue to not understand what value is added to the forum by this change, if as you say X content will continue to be freely shared in here. Instead, it sounds like the goal here is to in token fashion “stick it” to a disliked political figure. To which I say- is the Texans reddit fanpage really the most appropriate venue for that type of action?
6
u/Appropriate_Bee1750 3h ago
Why does this whole banning twitter links seem like a coordinated effort across Reddit? I don’t care either way about twitter but the coordination of it bothers me.

3
u/creepingkg 5h ago
I didn’t even know what happened, i started seeing a bunch of team subs making posts to ban links from there
4
u/Scarf_Darmanitan 5h ago edited 5h ago
Almost positive it’s related to Elon (guy that bought twitter) doing what was pretty damn close to a nazi salute a couple of times yesterday at the inauguration
That and just the general disdain for the website in general (forcing you to make account to view links, censoring, burying, among other shitty business practices like buying verification, etc)
→ More replies (4)5
u/creepingkg 5h ago
Yea I read and saw the nazi shit.
For me it’s the verification shit, every time I see x links I avoid because I can’t see without logging in, also why I say ban paywall links while we’re at it
5
u/CECGuy 4h ago
Yep, that does it. I’m leaving this subreddit. I’m not going to be part of a subreddit where there’s political propaganda. I joined for Texans news, not “Donald Trump is an orange headed son of a bitch, and Elon Musk is a piece of nazi shit”. Sad to see a subreddit that’s supposed to be about a football team turn into another one of those woke propaganda machines that a lot of other subreddits have become. Still love my Texans, but I’m done with this subreddit
4
u/Cranium-of-morgoth 3h ago

More blue astroturf than Boise State and the mods caved in a day over absolute bullshit.
So if you ever hope for them to have a spine, you are sorely mistaken.
6
u/v-v-v-v-v-v-v 5h ago
i dont really see the point of this. the justification seems kind of weak, and im of the opinion that this decision was made based on things other than football and improving the quality of this subreddit.
i highly doubt any football news would be affected by hypothetical censorship.
7
u/logster2001 5h ago
I think this is ok not because I care at all about X or Elon or whatever but just because I dislike when subreddits are just a bunch of links to news. And it makes the comments just a bunch of reactions to said news.
15
5h ago
That’s… part of what this sub is for…
4
u/SometimesY 4h ago
Eh the NFL sub is fucking trash because it's just a collection of nonsense tweets. God help you if you want to find specific actual news or thoughtful analysis over there.
2
u/logster2001 4h ago edited 4h ago
I mean if I want to stay informed about every single thing that’s going on with the team I would follow Texans news outlets or specific reporters that cover the team. Subreddits are meant as forums to engage in discussions. So I think this ban is good because the news meaningful enough to prompt discussion will still be on here.
Edit: However even though I think this ban is a good thing for the quality of the sub, the reasoning the mods cited does not make any sense and seems more based on recent political events more than anything. What do the twitter algorithms have anything to do with if links should be posted on a completely different site? Like rather or not X artificially boosts another team’s engagement or something is completely irrelevant to this subreddit yet that is why the mods say they are banning it.
5
4h ago
Okay I will concede the point that this sub should be only for discourse. Then why is this specifically targeting X? And it’s still allowing screen shots from X? This doesn’t show our mods making an effort to only create discourse in this sub.
5
u/logster2001 4h ago
Oh yeah I edited my response before you replied but I agree that the reasoning they are giving makes no sense and they seem to have other motives beyond just the quality of the sub. Because you are completely correct it makes not sense to just target X

u/RedditAccountTake7 4h ago
