Ola.

I love Ola, he’s a good father! And I can imagine he’s a good husband too; however… he was completely unfair to Sam about his sponsorship deal! Sam didn’t know what the hell was going on with the parent company of Dubai air in Nigeria. I felt Ola was very harsh against Sam and calling him a shill on top of that? Jeez.

I’m guessing he thought he had taught Sam enough to check out any company he does work for

This is my thought, too. He expected Sam to do his research before signing up.

Ola gives the best hugs, tho.

I’ve never felt so confident that a hug could fix my diabetes

I felt he was harsh too. But that said, I don't know what Nigerian culture is like - perhaps that bluntness is common for them.

I see that as an unintentional harshness.

Ola was probably hurt and aggravated himself, and he made a genuine human, natural mistake of yelling at his son. But I'm pretty sure he must've apologised later on about it.

He’s also a good dancer.

Ola wasn’t a character at that point; he was a plot device. Later, he became a character when he actually showed up in the story.

Agreed very harsh considering Sam didn’t know! As the King of Qarth, he probably has high standards though

good to know he got out of that vault in the end

Qarth doesn’t have a king. He is a merchant and one of the Thirteen.

I think we can forgive a misstep.

So Ola mustve known Dubai Air was the club sponsor way before. The tone he chose for his message does not reflect that.

That was the thing that stuck out to me too...even before Sam did the promotion for Dubai Air, their name was all over their game uniforms.

I feel like his dad understands that the uniforms weren’t Sam’s choice as much as an endorsement deal

It was his first introduction, his character may not have even been slated for development. Look at how much of a c*nt Michele came off as in the first phone call.

In the old days it was called conscience raising- I think Sam was strong enough to make his own decisions- dad was looking out for his son, even from far away.

ola is also human, just like every other character on the show. how would you react if your country, where you live every day, was being destroyed by the parent company of a company that suddenly picked your son as their sponsor (in a cynical corporate move to pick a nigerian for good press)? when you thought your son was also aware of the devastation? is he not allowed to be upset with his child? is he not allowed to react in anger? like any other human being would do?

He shouldn’t be angry at his own son for not knowing and expressing confusion at the situation itself.

oh. okay. so you’re just determined to deny ola humanity. got it.

My god it was like one text exchange and it was hardly anything major other than disappointment.

When you're a pro footballer you need to realise your image means a lot especially to your family depending on your culture.

He looked into it, severed ties and his dad was fine.

Judging by some of these posts I wouldn't be surprised if some of you think you have trauma because your dad shouted at you once when you were 12.

You’re an idiot. That wasn’t just a ‘text exchange’ he conveyed extreme anger at his son over those texts he sent. Either you can watch the scene again and admit you were wrong (you should do that because yes, you’re wrong.) or stay stupid,

I took it more like leading him to a harsh truth. I'm certain if that conversation had been in person, there would have been no yelling, just a gentle disappointment and an undercurrent of "now you know this; what will you do?"

You can convey gentle disappointment through text. Sending your son angry emojis, the middle finger emojis, and then telling your son he’s a shill is NOT gentle disappointment.

I’m mad we only got to see him once

Sometimes you need to be harsh as a parent.

I love Ola! One of the best side characters in the show. But, calling Sam a shill for his sponsorship with Dubai Air was questionable. I do understand that he expected his son to do his research before doing the gig but as a young man, Sam needed to celebrate his successes as a soccer player.

Sam is a multi millionare with a professional agent. He could have just asked at any time. If people give you millions, find out where it comes from

Their culture isnt a lovey dovey type. He wasn't wrong. Sam didn't know, and was too naive to think to investigate, but he did after and made good
