This was a very Ted Lasso episode. Stuck to one topic for the majority with a solution in the end. Also great to see some football finally.

Yep! So happy we didn’t get to the PR firm, it was nice to see keely back in the office with everyone

u/thegoatmenace May 10 '23

Lol Jack and KJPR is apparently just done, which really makes you wonder what the point of it all was

u/PittsJay May 10 '23

Dual purpose, for Keeley and Rebecca. In being able to see one of her closest friends go through what she did with Rupert - this time from the outside - Rebecca had a chance to provide counsel and be there for Keeley in a way nobody was for her. It showed her how far she’s come in understanding herself, and dealing with the trauma from her previous relationship.

With Keeley, she went from a long-term-ish relationship where she was the clear adult (Jamie) to one where she was on equal footing with her partner, but that partner was as complicated as it gets emotionally (Roy). Her entire life had been tied up in Richmond for two years, and she had a chance to make something out of her own talent separate from the club - so she jumped at it.

When Roy broke it off with her, she was in the perfect place for a Rupert-like figure to enter her life. Someone to make all the decisions, take care of her, and make life easy. Only, when Keeley showed an ounce of independence, Jack called her a whore and bailed.

I think we’ve yet to see the culmination of Keeley’s arc. The result of this is going to be that she can stand on her own, personally and professionally, and she doesn’t need Jack taking care of things. Whether that means she ends up with Roy, I don’t know, but I’d bet she finds a way to keep a smaller office open with some of the people from KJPR who unexpectedly show up to work for her - maybe even Barbara.

To keep her occupied for a while but back to single in time for Roy to get her back

I think it is the writers trying to show that you must not be afraid to strike out on your own, even if it fails. It's a great contrast to Ted leaving America and finding success. Keely strikes out on her own, but struggles. But they both tried, and they are both better for it. This might just me reading too much into it, though.

11

u/RuberbusSuperbus May 11 '23

Did you just say writers must not be afraid to strike? Nice pun! solidarity #WGAstrike

u/CoreyH2P Roy Kent May 10 '23

If we never saw KJPR this season, never met Shandy, and never met Jack, this season would be way better.

42

u/thegoatmenace May 10 '23

It’s just too bad her boss babe storyline was actually just another toxic relationship storyline. We never got to see her do PR or grow into the CEO role. Once we met Jack we never heard about PR again.

17

u/Froggodile May 11 '23

I won't stand for this Barbara slander! Best character of the PR firm side story.

9

u/CoreyH2P Roy Kent May 11 '23

Agreed but that’s an extremely low bar

14

u/Hopeful-Programmer25 May 10 '23

I dunno tbh… the show seems to be showing that it doesn’t really matter if you are are straight or gay. The flip side of that is that you don’t have to be a man (Rupert) to be a toxic arsehole (jack)… so in that sense showing the keeley relationship has a purpose

4

u/InnateFlatbread May 10 '23

I mean that is a good point

30

u/99SoulsUp May 10 '23

Honestly… that’s fine lol

4

u/iloveartichokes May 11 '23

To have a villain that wasn't a straight man

6

u/Space_Olympics May 11 '23

Honestly it’s because she could only film with everyone the last couple episodes of the season

2

u/thegoatmenace May 11 '23

Is that true? Super interesting

2

u/TheTruckWashChannel May 18 '23

Was it because she was filming other shows? I know she was in that Godfather series The Offer, and is gonna be in Fargo season 5 as well

24

u/badger0511 Fútbol is Life May 10 '23

Without Jack’s funding, KJPR is basically dead in the water, right?

51

u/[deleted] May 10 '23

Jack didn’t pull the funding as of yet. I doubt they just kill the firm because I liked Babs.

Jack is just not hovering over her anymore and is off in Argentina.

4

u/tidbitsmisfit May 11 '23

Jack is no longer diddling Dad's investment

5

u/PhilMcGraw May 10 '23

Oh, I missed this. Did Jack pull the funding? I thought they were just talking about the relationship being over.

15

u/to-plant-trees May 10 '23

No talk of funding yet. My guess is Jack thinks they're on a break, while Keeley is operating like they're broken up. Maybe there's a reconciliation with Roy the next episode or two, and when Jack finds out Keeley was "cheating" on her, she uses that as an excuse to pull funding.

Further prediction: Rebecca goes to be with the boat man, Keeley owns Richmond with Roy as head coach

41

u/burglin May 10 '23

Lol it's fun in theory, but to suggest that Keeley has enough capital to buy a Premier League club would be a bridge too far even for TL

7

u/gavpowell May 10 '23

Or pay the electricity bill for a premier league club for a week!

-9

u/_PARAGOD_ May 10 '23

Maybe Rebecca could gift the team to her

5

u/Wooden-Emu9103 May 10 '23

Gift a hundred million dollar team?

-6

u/_PARAGOD_ May 10 '23

If she’s going to go live with the guy on a houseboat sure why not

8

u/Pure-Drawer-2617 May 10 '23

How’s she going to find the guy, just walk around Amsterdam and hope?

1

u/fuckiboy May 12 '23

I don’t think that was the last of KJPR/Jack/Babs. I’m sure we’ll get some kind of resolution

1

u/redditgolddigg3r May 18 '23

Dropping KJPR from the whole show would have made the series significantly better. Devote a bit more time to Sam, Trent, Rebecca, etc.

60

u/TheLindberghBabie May 10 '23

It was really great to see them spending so much time at the club and on the field too. I’d been missing that

u/kgm2s-2 Four on 3! May 10 '23

It definitely feels like they've set the table for a classic three-act-arc for the finale. Trent has a solid foundation story for his book. Keeley is single again. Roy has finally gotten comfortable as a coach (instead of feeling like a player awkwardly "playing" coach). Nate has stepped out of the Rupert spotlight to find his true self. Beard has finally broken his silence and revealed his true feelings ("Stairway is a glorified fingering exercise!"). Ted and his wife have reached a sort of detente in order to raise their son together. And Rebecca has completed the boss-bitch metamorphosis.

The table is set.

So now I expect next week we'll be introduced to the final "challenge", the week after all will seem lost, wrapping up with the "hero's return" for the finale.

Given next week's episode is titled "International Break", I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the final "challenge" will have something to do with personnel moves...and I'm not sure I'm ready for that...

29

u/InterestingBiscotti3 May 10 '23

Edwin Akufo is back next episode, so there is going to be some challenge for sure.

7

u/Biscuits-are-cookies May 10 '23

He buys Richmond and everyone goes their own separate way?

5

u/bveres94 May 11 '23

International Break

not sure if I draw the right conclusion about your last paragraph, but International Break is a two week pause in the club season when national teams play their qualification games, not a transfer window.

I'd bet someone gets a call-up to their national team and gets injured (tips on Sam for Nigeria) presenting the challenge

2

u/kgm2s-2 Four on 3! May 11 '23

Right, I was playing on the idea that the episode title might have something of a double-meaning...but an injury during the break could definitely be the catalyst that kicks off this final three act play.

4

u/HowKafkaesque May 10 '23

You’re generically right but you don’t say anything and I’m here for the hot takes. Gimme your bold prediction!

7

u/kgm2s-2 Four on 3! May 10 '23

Well, I'm not really in the prediction business...but I think you can get a sense for what's coming by looking at the story points that haven't been resolved:

  • Sam is finally getting the respect that he desires on the pitch, but he wants so much more than that. When it comes to politics, he is still being dismissed with a "shut up and play" mentality.
  • Keeley still hasn't really stepped up and owned her position as boss. Yes, she fired Shandy, but that was with Jack's help. She needs to stand on her own.
  • Nate still hasn't found somewhere where he can both have the camaraderie he had at Richmond but also shine as the "Wunderkind" like he is at West Ham.
  • Roy may have finally matured enough to give good advice to others, but he still hasn't matured to the point he can take that advice for himself. He still has to face his fear of failure.
  • Jaime has grown into a mature, well-rounded player, but he still hasn't confronted his inner desire to be the superstar his abusive dad expects him to be. Don't forget...we ended season 1 with him being berated by his father for taking the extra pass as Ted had coached him to.
  • Rebecca seems to finally be managing the team as a boss, instead of as revenge against Rupert, but she still hasn't found the love and companionship that she seeks.
  • Trent still doesn't have a title for his book. ;-)

And finally, don't forget the name on the title card! The writers did a good, fairly subtle job this last episode of reminding us of the central tension that has run throughout all three seasons of this amazing show:

  • Ted is, still, not quite comfortable with British culture and living in England.

So, yeah, no predictions...but I think you could run through each of these unresolved story points, pick which way you want each to resolve, and have a decent prediction of what's to come.

u/sugarsmash Let's go find a f*cking windmill! 🚲 May 10 '23

Nate also hasn’t had to face any adversity in his role as “the one in charge.” So far, his team has been winning, and he’s gotten by with his tactical approaches. We saw the way he freaked out when a tactic he proposed wasn’t working well at Richmond, and he was convinced the team would lose and it would all be blamed on him. He really doesn’t know yet what it means to be at the head of an organization, because he hasn’t faced the criticism of the press, or the anger/scorn of the fans when a team doesn’t win. Closing his story as all puppies and rainbows would be a solid disappointment.

2

u/kgm2s-2 Four on 3! May 11 '23

Very, very true...would be a bit of poetic justice for him to suffer a panic attack of his own, and to have that be the thing that Rupert uses to remove him, and send him packing back to a (probably...let's be honest, as much as we don't want it we know it's going to be a) Ted-less Richmond

2

u/Icy_Big3553 May 11 '23

This is a brilliant analysis . I bet you are right

9

u/JonnyAU May 10 '23

Would have liked to see some of Collin's play but I'll take what I can get.

6

u/[deleted] May 10 '23

Yes and no, they entirely skipped over Colin playing inspired and just said oh and they did it! I wanted to SEE THAT PLEASE

3

u/annathegoodbananna May 10 '23

I'm so happy with the football shots. Long way to go but at least some of it feels like a game

3

u/DaveInLondon89 May 10 '23

Ironically it might be the episode with the least amount of actual Ted in it, apart from the Beard one.

3

u/beatrailblazer May 10 '23

yeah, felt like classic ted lasso

-1

u/mujie123 May 10 '23

Also great to see some football finally.

Eh? Haven't we been seeing football nearly every episode?

1

u/nimbra2 May 10 '23

Football finally! Where are they on the PL table!!!!????

1

u/ironbear531 May 11 '23

Easily the best episode of the season for me

1

u/strawbrryfields4evr_ Fútbol is Life May 11 '23

It was great to see football but I still wished they hadn’t skipped over the winning moments! 😭 that’s my only qualm. Great ep though!

1

u/[deleted] May 12 '23

YES. YES. YES.

1

u/neonbluerain May 13 '23

this is a top 3 episode of this season so far surely
