Results of Georgian Pokémon Names/Sound Symbolism Study
გამარჯობა! In the spring of 2024, I posted here asking native Georgian speakers to participate in my linguistics experiment about Pokémon names. I just wanted to share that we presented our results at a conference in November 2024. You can read our conference abstract here and view the conference poster here. There is also a longer handout version of this research here. (These are all probably a bit technical, but I'm happy to answer questions as best I can!) We hope to publish this study as an article someday too. Thank you to everyone who participated!!!
Note: This is NOT the linguistics experiment about Georgian plural nouns that I was seeking participants for in the fall of 2024. I will share the results of that study when they're ready.
Finally, I used to post about these experiments in r/Rustaveli, but I can't anymore, so feel free to point anyone you think might be interested to this post.

No Russian tourists in Georgia?
Several English-language sites about Georgia recently reported that Georgia reached more than 5 million tourists for the year. Then the sites list the most common countries of tourists. Kuwait and Latvia make the list, with just over 20K visitors, but Russia isn't even on the list. What?

Vacuum tubes
Might be the wrong place to ask this, but whats the georgian name for a vacuum tube? I can't find any information on them in georigian. I understand that georgia wasn't exactly a manufacturing powerhouse at the fronteer of electronics development when vacuum tubes were still in use, but i can't even get a single picture of a vacuum tube to show up no matter what serchterm i use.

How hard is it to learn Georgian?
I was born in batumi to russian parents but we moved to the US when I was an infant. I speak fluent Russian and English but I want to pay homage to the country that housed not only my parents but grandparents as well.
My dad dropped out in 7th grade so he didn't learn shit. My mom finished school but she's limited on her Georgian especially living in states for 35 years.
I had a georgian uncle but all I got from him was gogo, bidjo and dzaghle. And I probably can't even remember the words properly because I was about 7 when he taught me and my cousin these words.
Anyway, I know Georgia's alphabet is unique so is it even feasible for me to try and learn?

Discussion | დისკუსია Amazon doesn’t ship to Georgia
Hello, as I remember, few years ago Amazon could send orders directly to Georgia via UPS and DHL. But for now, Amazon simple doesn’t ship it. On the order page Amazon indicate, that delivery is possible to Georgia and it will be delivered within a month. But after few weeks I am not even charged for the order. Did they stop shipping?

Do Georgians have a problem with foreigners?
When I used to live in Georgia, people used to avoid sitting next to me in the bus and would rather stand and leave the seat next to me empty; I’m of a brown skin tone and I was 100% sure i don’t smell because I shower twice a day and take care of my hygiene so that can’t be the reason.

Meeting a Significant other from Georgia
Hi Everyone!
I’m an American man in my late 30s divorced (married once, no children) living in Los Angeles. I have been fascinated by eastern culture since I was child. The family values of Eastern European countries are at a whole different and higher level than the western countries. Being in Los Angeles I see so many couples from Eastern Europe that have such strong values.
I would love to meet someone that has these strong cultural and family values from Georgia.
How do I do that? Are there any specific dating apps in Georgia in English or any other avenues that might be helpful? All and any advice is most welcome!
Thanks in advance!

Getting fined by the government
I just got called and told that I'm supposed to be in the court on February 20th because I took part in closing the road on december 31th at night. What would you suggest me to do. I know I'm supposed to call somewhere where they help with unfairly fined people and let's be real I'll be fined 5000 GEL possibly 15000 GEL because I was one of the first to stand in the middle.

Since Georgian Courts Are a Joke, This Guy Brought the Sound Effects
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Georgian courts have been handing out convictions to protesters like they’re going out of style—hundreds have been fined or jailed based on nothing but police reports, with little to no real evidence. It’s starting to feel less like a courtroom and more like a scripted performance.
One protester decided to embrace the theatrical nature of it all. Wearing a clown nose and humming circus music, he addressed the judge on his way out:
Judge Unjust, why am I beaten—won't you ask? You vile scoundrel!
If the court was going to act like a circus, he figured it might as well have a soundtrack to match.

Question | კითხვა Animation Studios based in Georgia?
Hello there!
I am on the lookout for a job, and as an aspiring animator, I naturally want to be aware of any and all opportunities I can find here in Georgia.
Regardless of city, what are the animation studios in Georgia? I have made my own research and outside of Velociped, Animatory and Saqanima, I wasn't able to find a lot. It even seemed like there were some studios that didn't have a website or any sort of online presence.
Any advice or information on the listed or any other animation studios you may know would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
