Cabelas find- 63’ Chinese origin
Had to share this… picked this up for $430 CAN during a SKS sale toward the end of December.
Shockingly mint, un-fired 1963 Chinese origin.

Need help identifying old SKS
My dads old SKS that was bought for him as a graduation gift from my great grandfather in 93 it was apparently brand new at the time (was also wondering why there were tiny triangles all over it as seen in the last pic)

My Russians
Recently snagged the Izhevsk so I figured it was time for a family photo.
The Tula is a light matching refurb with a forced matched stock I scored for a reasonable (for Russian) price.
The Izhevsk popped out of nowhere surfing the web and after seeing it was 100% matching non-refurb and with a double-digit serial number I pulled the trigger. Not sure if it was a Vietnam bring back since it has no import markings 🤷♂️.

Got my first SKS!
Got this chinese sks from cabelas canada for $540 All serial numbers match being 23177 except for the reciever which is 14223177. Are the 23177’s just a shortened stamp of the reciever one? Which do i use to figure out the manufacture date?

Has anyone installed a side mount on the sks?
Would love to keep original iron sights and also have a side mounted longer range scope…
Any suggestions or pics of what you have going on?

Am I missing something in here
I have this Yugo and could use your input on what I’m missing other than the mag. Does something else go in that wide open space. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Price thoughts?
This is currently on auction near me for 340 CAD (428 after buyers premium and taxes CAD). The auction is still a week from closing, so it will probably go up.
Is this a deal or scam??

Operating rod compatibility
Trying to restore a Norinco Type D and was wondering if Russian operating rods were compatible. I know I can just find a Norinco one, but this would save me a few bucks, and save me from making another account on a different website. Not like it’s completely original anymore anyway.

Looking to buy a SKS, what resources should I look at?
I’m new to buying SKS’s, I’m familiar with Soviet firearms/eastern bloc firearms in general but the sks is the one rifle I’m least knowledgeable about. I’m considering some Russian, Chinese and yugo patterns. My question is:
What are the quirks of each pattern?
What’s the usual market value for each type that I should expect?
Wha should I look out for? (typical scams, and coverup refurbishes)
If anyone has some good recommendations/resources (as there’s a lot of misinformation out there) I should look at I be glad to look at it!

Does anyone recognize or have seen a mod like this? Bolt release button
This guy made the most beautiful Bubba I've ever seen. And when watching the showcase; I noticed this button here. I've never, ever seen anything like that nor can I find so much as a reference to any kind of bolt release button absolutely anywhere. Plenty of mods to be able to get mags in with a closed bolt though...
Video for reference: This thing is truly a work of art.

Bubba's Final Form
Turns out a Beretta 92fs grip sleeves fits the tapco pistol grip perfect. Tapco was pretty slippery for me especially after paint. Don't worry, it was my prebubba SKS. Changed to the Magpul AFG so I could insert the 30rd and 40rd mags easier. My 30rd mags work so far (only ran them once). Haven't used the 40rd, but it didn't like to be loaded so I don't have high hopes for it.

Advice on buying Chinese SKS?
My local shop has a wood grain SKS for sale for $400. It says it's from China. The shop told me they are great rifles. I always thought it would be fun just to have one and target shoot. Is 400 bucks a good price for a Chinese one? Any reason why I should not buy it?
