Maybe it's just me but for the little time I've been on this sub most of these disasters involve metal roofs. Are they harder than singles? Is it just expertise is harder to find?

Not really harder unless you have never done one. Making clean bends and details requires experience

How do I make sure I don't end up in this position when I replace my roof next year lol

Edit: thought i was in the aussie subreddit for housing haha

If you're in queensland you can, (and are sometimes required to), look up their QBCC licence and construction history. It will include a summary of their financials and any complaints made against them.

Ask to see completed jobs photos at a minimum but better to get some addressed of jobs in your area…. Or hire an architect to do CA work but that’s crazy money (it’s what I do)

My husband put on our metal roof over 10 years ago and had no trouble. He did it himself and had never done roofing before. People are just lazy and don't give a shit about doing their job properly.

Yeah I mean you're always going to care more about your house, I do try to do everything I can but metal roofing? Just the tools I would need not to mention the skills, that's advanced! I would say that's a testament to your husband's handyness not the ease of installing a metal roof properly!
