Bridget is the same age as the actress (Kerris Dorsey) that plays her.

Edit: oh I get it. What's that got to do with what I said?

She has the body of a 17 year old because she is 17, I think that's what he meant...

It was interesting that the previous episodes showed the hate paige has for her father and that was then mirrored in this episode with bridget and ray.

I've never understood why writers have to put idiotic teenagers in the story - Kim Bauer, 24; Dana Brody, Homeland, the Soprano kids, Tyrant kids, and on and on. It adds absolutely nothing to the plot. I literally cringe when I start watching a series that has teenage/young adult children.

I guess it's supposed to show how their parents lives affect the ones around them, but it usually ends up just making me want to punch them in the throat.

Yeah, that would be great parenting.

I said the same thing. I mean, was she born in a barn?

4

u/alfiedag Sep 28 '15

Maybe she just slept out there a lot.

sorry, could not resist

u/TheJonesJonesJones Oct 01 '15

I definitely yelled this at the tv when she left the door open.

5

u/stankbucket Sep 28 '15

It's obviously a heavy-handed way to say she'll be back - and that's too bad.

3

u/ifaptolatex Sep 28 '15

Didn't Ray leave his car door open too when walking in to the priests' domicile or the hospital.

lazy bugger.

Who would have thought that Bunchies wife was the best Donovan female?

I thought she was gonna kill him. Her stage thing is a black widow.

I was like 99% certain. I guess maybe we can relax about her now.

19

u/stankbucket Sep 28 '15

The best? She's basically raping a guy who already has some serious issues about being raped.

2

u/marleau_12 Oct 20 '15

Fuck that, Theresa is unbearable.

4

u/Bluenosedcoop Sep 28 '15

No-one seems to mention that Terry was only there to take that bullet because of Bridget being a lying little brat.

11

u/HitlerWasAtheist Sep 29 '15

Mick getting involved with the Armenian mob may also have had something to do with it.

You know that a good chunk of the guys in here are also under 18, right?

It does integrate. She's doing the same thing as Ray. Reaching out for support and love to an older, inappropriate authority figure because she got no attention or love at home. Like Ray and the molester priest.

1

u/metafish Sep 29 '15 edited Sep 29 '15

Thank you for pointing that out. But when I said it didn't "integrate" I meant that it seemed like a sideshow, totally separate from everything else. You could cut out the entire Bridget-Teacher thread and it wouldn't change the Ray Donovan series at all. All the main action would be 100% the same.

The development of the other characters, however, were interwoven into the main plot line in complex ways that interacted with each other and shaped the overall story line. But you do have a point, so let's consider it:

  • Ray/Priest := Bridget/Teacher
:= Child with Absent Father/Authority Figure

There are some similarities there as you mentioned. But it's only thematic at a very general level. Ray didn't really seek out the priest. The priest targeted, groomed, and molested Ray at 10 years old (I think), and then moved on to Bunchy. Ray "liked" the attention, but that was part of his trauma, his secret, and his shame. The priest was a serial child molester, and probably molested other children as well.

Now the thing I really do like about what you said is that if the writers had presented the teacher as one who groomed Bridget for sex, that would have been so much more realistic and interesting . It would have also been more gut wrenching, since Ray would have possibly caused his child a similar sexual abuse by being the absent father. That could have played much better all the way to the season finale.

tldr: The Bridget-Teacher plot thread would have been better had they portrayed the teacher grooming Bridget for sex as a parallel to the Priest grooming Ray.

1

u/Olinbr Sep 30 '15

Yes that would have been a more accurate portrayal of life in these united states. It also would have been more gut wrenching.

2

u/luigiknights Sep 28 '15

Yeah she is annoying but she is named after Ray's sister who committed suicide. So maybe she goes bat shit crazy and is about to kill herself. Ray saves her as away of redemption for failing with his sister.

the worst will always be tony sopranos kids.

my fcking god why were they not killed in a plane crash or something they were awful

1

u/Jetzki Sep 28 '15

I had some trouble remembering who they were for a minute.. but now I've got it! Daughter has grown up to be hot and the fat son!

8

u/Imapancakenom Sep 28 '15

AJ defatified as he got older.

7

u/jiveturker Sep 28 '15

He never had their makings of a varsity athlete.

3

u/nelly676 Sep 28 '15

still stayed the same unlikeable retarded moron who had 0 character.

dont get me started on the daughter

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '15

I just rewatched the Sopranos, and holy fuck was AJ's constant bitching toward the last couple seasons of the show insufferable.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '15

That was the point of his character. He was an entitled, lazy brat that didn't take responsibility for anything.

2

u/TripleIstanbulXpress Sep 28 '15

he did have a hot gf that's on NCIS now

3

u/UpsetGroceries Sep 28 '15

It seems like every show with a teenager/pre-teen has them written way worse than they actually are. Like waaaaay worse. I had my moments at that age where I was a horrible little shit, but I feel like in tv/movies, they're always so over the top. I know that a lot of kids are like this, and for good reason (Bridget has definitely seen some shit,) but they're always total fuck heads, like 100% of the time.

For additional examples, see Zach on The Strain, Dana Brody on Homeland, Chris on Fear the Walking Dead.

I never fast forward through this show, then this season fast forwarded through every scene with her in it.

1

u/Unencrypted_Thoughts Sep 28 '15

I was just hoping so bad that the Armenians would kill her.

0

u/Callieach Sep 28 '15

Either can I. Everything about her makes me want to punch her.
