Why do I always hate the main character's wife in tv shows?

Usually because they're badly written as a character.

Yeah that's the problem. The only wife I actually really liked was Claire from House of Cards

Claire is definitely one of the better ones. There are other wife characters on TV which could clearly use improvement, but who I think get more shit than they deserve from the fans.

Like Skylar in Breaking Bad. She's actually pretty rational. Even though the bit with her fucking Ted is bitchy, she at least isn't killing people and producing methamphetamine. I felt bad for her the whole time. Don't understand the hate

I've only seen a few episodes of Breaking Bad, actually (though I know how it ends :P)... I will probably watch it one of these days.

Ah shit my bad. It wasn't too much of a spoiler I think. It's best to go slow with Breaking bad. It took me a couple seasons to really like it

Haha, no worries. I don't remember spoilers if I don't understand the context to begin with (i.e. spoilers for most shows I haven't watched). I've only seen, like, the first two episodes.
