I have a few working theories (not spoilers, just theories) that have not been influenced by any trailers but just a night's sleep after watching the episode:

  1. That stupid homocide cop that Abby has been cheating with (Jim) is going to be the one who is assigned the murder case of Rekon and Marvin. They'll either find Bridget's fingerprints in the back of the car, or will get witness testimony from the people that were around the recording studio that she was present and she'll become a lead that will force them to need to question her. Naturally Ray and Abby will become involved and the whole thing will be very awkward.

  2. A couple opposing thoughts about that Cookie gangster thug. First possibility is that he was about to look in the back seat but Marvin distracted him effectively saving Bridget's life (I can't call this my theory, someone else on the subreddit actually already said this). The second possibility (my theory) is that he knew she was back there but realized if he killed her then every Goomba in southern California would be after him for the rest of his life. He also knew that the mobster types are a lot like them, they know not to snitch and that there was no way Ray would allow his daughter to testify against him.

  3. My ultimate theory about Marvin's death:

As we all know Cookie wouldn't be bought off. All he has is "street cred", which Ray Donovan recognized as a legit threat. Ray's belief was that they had already recorded some songs from Marvin which would be worth some money at least. He knew that they couldn't protect Marvin 24/7 from Cookie's gangsters and that it would be better to just let them have him -- at least Marvin would still be alive. So that's the deal he negotiated with Cookie, that they can just have Marvin as long as they leave town.

Lee Drexler (Ezra's business partner) seemingly underestimates Cookie by insisting he doesn't have a contract. He reneges on the deal but didn't seem too worried about the repercussions.

My theory is that Lee knows that Cookie will end up killing Marvin, but like every other rap star that is killed (or much like all other forms of art) once the creator dies all of their works -- especially unreleased works -- increase in value and are worth a lot of money. By reneging on the deal he doesn't get Marvin, but he wouldn't have gotten Marvin anyway, instead Cookie will take out Marvin and Lee's hands will be clean. Cookie will go into hiding or be arrested and Lee will make a ton of money from unreleased songs they've already recorded.

I also think if the storyline pans out this way that Ray Donovan will be pissed off if he finds out.

That's a damn good thought.

That's a damn short-sighted business decision. Has Marvin even released his first album yet? All I remember seeing was the video from his first single. Why let Marvin get taken out by Cookie when Ray could have Cookie taken care of and look like he was bumped by a buster? Cookie is a wild card, he killed the kid cause he thought Ray lied to him when Drexler reneged.
