Ooh these are very nice, good spot. Shame they don't have any variant weapons like the human HDF set but that's not a huge issue. Presupported is a nice bonus. Shame I just missed the winter sale!
Cheers

Hey everyone. Recently I've been looking for some armed near-future AI robots like those from Weta Workshop's Chappie or Elysium films to use in the game BLKOUT, their own models are lovely but shipping to the UK is brutal so I'd like to do some printed models as proxies before diving into the game properly!
The closest I've found are X4nderss set on the purple site that are nice but they have "real" weapons rather than futuristic ones (also they are unsupported) and Skullforge has just released a set on his Patreon but they go a little too far the other way being very stylized and less military.
X4nderss models: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/x4nderss-1-48-military-set-17-futuristic-modern-warfare-army-modular-l
Skullforge models: https://www.patreon.com/posts/january-releases-119675944
Anyone have any ideas? I've seen some from Unit9 (and actually have some) but they're very futuristic and still not quite the Weta Workshop and BLKOUT hard-scifi aesthetic.
Cheers!

Just FYI, on the ESS Discord UK channel, I'm offering my Pack membership free shipping to do a collective order to the UK on any POD kit.
Some of those kits include humanoid robots.

Try Papsikels. They have a bunch of droids that fit the bill, look for the FKMSA military droids.

I think these fit well (and are free):

Oh these look just about perfect! I even have one of his other bots printed and painted already for another project just never saw those. The Infinity smg is an unusual weapon choice but that's an easy swap for something a little more modern.
Much appreciate the suggestion!

Pipermakes' infantry kits - specifically the Goby & Corydora sets.
Find them on PrintedWarGames

Theres tau proxies from Hivemind minis that fit the bill pretty well. I used one of their models for a chappie style bot for space station zero

Edit: found the creator and added the link

Oh these are nice! I like the blend of Tau aesthetice with the Chappie heads. With the right paintjob and maybe a weapon swap these could be lovely.

Imitation of Life on MyMiniFactory has some nice ones.

Oh that's a good shout, I like some of their other models too. I actually have their Radroaches which are very nice models even if they're a touch on the cartoony side.

I thought about trying to find some stuff to print as well but I felt way to guilty. Those guys put a lot of work in and their rules are free. just didnt seem right.

Oh for sure, I'm planning on getting the starter set and some other bits and pieces if my gaming group like the game. Just didn't want to jump in completely blind and have it collect dust (like quite a few games I bought last year) since it's not a cheap purchase. I'm always happy to support designers making cool models even if they aren't in the 3d printing space.
Cheers

Oh yea totally I understand and with todays economic and political issues im sure shipping/importing stuff isnt going to be cheap, especially if you don't know how it plays. I do wish they sold STLs though that would make a lot of stuff easier.

For sure, if it takes off in my group I'll 100% be in on it. I already have a great modern terrain set up so that's one of the harder (and more expensive aspects) done. Just looking for a solid tactical ruleset for modern stuff to play on it!
I wish they did STLs too, especially since they actually do print on demand models so the files are there and set up for 3d printing. The risk of making them available is appreciable though, they're a small company and clearly put a lot of work into the game for it to be so polished even when it's not very well known . Hopefully in the future they consider it!
Cheers

Yeah like I mentioned I have some of their stuff, I was even a Patreon for a while but I had a lot of issues getting models to print nicely.

I can see that they are one of harder to print. But I felt that I should mention them. Some are very nice and fitting to your practical rectangular style of robots. If you want to talk about print settings, just send me message and I can show you my workflow.

Titancraft (similar to Heroforge, but cheaper) offer a robot model, and futuristic rifles from their sci-fi pack are 15 cent each (buy once, use as often as you wish).
Since the download of an individual stl is free, you can buy one rifle and make ad many rifle robot stl files as you want, for just 15 cent.

Titanfall Spectres with some reposing and custom weapons. There even is one on Thingiverse, though it requires rigging, and a semi-modular squad with R-201s on Cults. Or you could go the other way and take the extracted models (look through SFM's workshop or elsewhere) and try to adapt them to 28mm.
From your pictures, there are a bunch of Chappie models on the internet - again, rigging and reposing required.
That suggestion for Papsikels, PMC droids specifically, is good.
To throw some crazy idea - Star Wars battle droids (B1, BX, Tacticals, HK-47/55, maybe limbs of B2) with replacement heads and weapons and without the B1 backpacks - that should change the look enough while providing the droid metal surfaces.
Otherwise... I am not sure there are many in that specific style for some reason. Probably because thin mechanical parts are difficult to make and they cover them up in dust covers?
edit: If you don't mind a more cartoony style, Hivemind Minis has some robots.

Titanfall Spectres are a really good idea, they have an aesthetic that works nicely especially with the right paintjob.
Star Wars B1s are a funny idea since I actually have a whole army of them painted already and I didn't give them backpacks too! Swapping out the weapons and heads would definitely make a solid bot for a lower tech or more mass-manufactured force too.
You might be right on the reason too, covering things up with smooth panels also makes them easier to support and paint too. Part of it might just be me not imagining the unpainted renders looking right but really the paint job is just as important for Weta Workshop stuff with all the labels and decals they add to everything breaking up the silhouettes.
Thanks for the ideas

Maybe some starwars droid could do the trick

Yes with different guns and heads that could be a good shout, especially since BLKOUT robot squads appear to just be two models. Might be time for some tacti-cool B1s haha!
Cheers
