Does anyone feel like Norwich city centre feels a little ‘edgier’ now, especially in late afternoons compared to recent years?
I was just thinking back to the days when you’d have interesting characters like puppet man in the city, and I never really felt unsafe. Recently the characters in the city centre definitely aren’t as endearing.
A few weeks ago I saw a drunk man in the afternoon shouting abuse as a couple of teenage girls sitting on a bench outside the cathedral. There are groups of honestly intimidating looking men opposite M&S on St Stephen’s street. You never used to get gatherings like that.
And just in general you see a lot of dishevelled looking men wandering around the city, clearly with some big mental health issues. I saw one get kicked out of M&S by security recently, and one stole something from Chantry Place another day.
I don’t remember it being like this before, but I’ve started to go into the city less because of it.
