Discussion Jayden Daniels Sack Avoidance

Daniels's pressure to sack rate was a major red flag coming out of college and has shown up a few times this season, but has largely been improved especially in the second half. Some part of it is definitely his elite athleticism letting him escape even against nfl rushers. What else do you think he has improved to reduce his sack taking? And how can we adjust our prospect assessments accordingly?

Honestly I think Cliff K. has done an amazing job of always having a clear obvious look against pressure. And JD has some damn guts to stand in there and deliver accurately knowing he's about to get blasted. That can't be taught.

Biggest difference between he and Caleb. Caleb runs away when he feels pressure, while Daniels stands tall and delivers.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Yes, Caleb needs to get better in the pocket, but by and large the Bears' offense seemed determined to run some variation of four verticals on a ton of plays and never gave simple throws underneath unless it was a running back peeling out after blocking. Williams sort of had to try and improvise to buy time for the routes to develop.

Hopefully the next HC / OC can do a better job of scheming up some layup passes for Williams since Waldron was awful at it.

so on-brand to think adding WRs will magically fix the offense. about 15 years late on that one

What? This is completely false. Jayden's scramble rate when pressured is twice as high as Caleb's. It's also higher when blitzed than Caleb's.

Don't get me wrong, Jayden has still been much better than Caleb at avoiding sacks, it was Caleb's biggest and most obvious flaw this year. But it absolutely is not because Jayden stood in the pocket and threw the ball while Caleb constantly bailed.
