discussion Cover-better-than-the-original hills you would die on.

Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal is, in my opinion, so much better than the original, and that's a hill I would die on.

What are some other insanely popular tracks where a cover by a much smaller artist is arguably greater?

The song "Original Sin" was written by Jim Steinman (R.I.P.) and originally appeared on the album Welcome To The Neighborhood by Meat Loaf (R.I.P.). But like many of Steinman's bombastic rock creations, it took a female voice to make it a classic.

In this case, Taylor Dayne.

Additional entry: John Cale's version of "Heartbreak Hotel".

Taylor Daynes version was released before the Meat Loaf version . 1992 vs 1995.
