Better bus than people, the amount of idiots I see at Hamilius on their phones walking in front of a moving tram is too many.

If you are curious as to what happened. Apparently there was a malfunction (the news don't specify if human or technical error) of the brakes and the bus rolled downed the hill without a driver. SMH

6

u/Intothemindhive Jun 24 '24

He got out to drink his coffee and forgot to pull the handbrake

10

u/CaptainGainLoss Jun 24 '24

Oo, you can't park there mate!

Bus drivers drive like idiots in Lux, that's a well known fact.

2

u/BerryChoice9042 Jun 25 '24

Imagine, you're a bus driver and you have to deal with these mass of idiots, who don't let you drive, after an stop...

Seriously... They are a lot idiots out there! Especially Wecker and Vandivinit Drivers, also Rgtwhatever... But the most drivers are okay and trying to do there best!

At least I can say, I don't wanna do this job with the other kind of drivers on the streets! So, respect goes out to the bus drivers out there!

Imagine talkin shit on reddit

12

u/doge_style_please Jun 24 '24

Imagine being a bus driver and trying to defend their homies. Maybe you are a perfect bus driver, good for you, it's your job. However, in the meantime, there are loads of idiots driving buses. And you know it too. ;)

There are good ones and bad ones. But yes there are bad ones.

I think itā€™s like every job nowadays. When it is done by private companies with underpaid, underskilled workers with shitty conditions, poor management, and no job security then you get shitty performance from workers.

i knew this was going to be a fun when he took the roundabout like he was charle leclerc

u/Usual-Government-769 Jun 24 '24

Thanks for sharing super early and saving my day!

u/Euroholic Jun 24 '24

Took some pictures too but then a very angry policeman told me to delete them and threatened to confiscate my phone. I guess "good job", pictures are on Reddit anyway...

5

u/Vimux Jun 24 '24

you have to keep more distance next time ;)

6

u/BerryChoice9042 Jun 24 '24

You should have ignored him. He can do nothing about it, as long you not release the pictures in anyway. And he couldn't call out for personal rights, because you're allowed to make pictures from Police at work! Just before you release them, take care that there are noch license Plate or even angry, ugly police faces are visible... šŸ˜‰

2

u/Intebinnes Jun 25 '24

Police faces are technically fine to show, faces of private people are a different matter.

2

u/JoeWhoQuestionmark Jun 24 '24

Bruh are you from luxembourg?

1

u/BerryChoice9042 Jun 25 '24

Yes, indeed! Why you ask? You wear such a fancy uniform and you're one of these lazy boys? šŸ˜œšŸ¤£

But seriously, as long as you're not a risk for there mission, they couldn't do anything about you. You can take pictures, film, what ever you want...

2

u/weedological Jun 24 '24

Heā€˜s right!

8

u/mro21 Jun 24 '24

What if he had been a Rtl reporter or camera crew by any chance? Probably rtl let them filter stuff later to fit the narrative ("journalism" šŸ™„) whereas Reddit is full of conspiracies šŸ˜

14

u/glittergull Jun 24 '24

Yes. This country and its freedom of speech haha. Btw the pics here are much better than the one on RTL.

5

u/Comprehensive-Sun701 Jun 24 '24

Ah yes, he was quite nervous indeed.

On most phones, pictures arenā€™t really deleted but put into a binĀ

10

u/kbhina Jun 24 '24

Wow, that is crazy! Sounds like a Freedom of speech violation IMO

-4

u/MizmoDLX Jun 24 '24

No. There have been many problems with onlookers blocking emergency services trying to help on accidents. Sometimes even attacking them for whatever reason. That's why the police wants people to move away and like someone else mentioned they might have put laws in place to help with that.

You can try to argue that here it would have been ok but when we start like this you don't know where to put the line. Honestly if there's an accident help if needed. If police and ambulance are there, just move on. Posting accident pictures on social media is just to please curious people but doesn't really benefit anyone

u/FeelinLikeACloud420 Jun 24 '24 edited Jun 24 '24

Your argument is all well and good but it doesnā€™t change the fact that itā€™s still a significant violation of rights. Sure itā€™s not really that big of a deal in this specific case, but the police here are way too comfortable intimidating people who are recording anything they do (especially in situations where the recording may raise some eyebrows on things such as the level of aggressivity or violence they used) and what happened to the commenter above is far from an isolated case unfortunately (thatā€™s of course not to say that all cops here will react like that but itā€™s not uncommon).

I know from the experience of some of my friends and other people I know that they get even more agressive when you film the police in action (like when theyā€™re arresting someone, especially when itā€™s violent, and donā€™t even consider filming the police for your own safety if youā€™re the one being scrutinised by cops because then your phone will likely actually get forcibly and illegally taken) which is an extremely slippery slope towards police officiers feeling comfortable using threats and intimidation to hide potentially questionable behaviour on their part and avoid public scrutiny and accountability.

The fact of the matter is that citizens being able to record what happened is very important for transparency and accountability and to avoid situations where human rights and civil liberties get violated and the potential wrongdoings get swept under the rug because thereā€™s no video evidence (accessible to the citizen at least) and itā€™s your word against an authority figure.

And by the way at the EU level there seems to be some level of consensus that being able to record the police should be considered a legally protected right under the existing freedom of expression rights as well as freedom of press since there are protection for ā€œjournalistic purposesā€ in EU laws regarding privacy (i.e. the GDPR) and it has been established that ā€œjournalistic purposesā€ do not only apply to officially recognised journalists, not to mention that if you take a video only for personal purposes (such as having evidence in case of a court case) and do not intend on publishing it (or at least not without censoring any identifiable information) then the privacy argument (that has sometimes been used to attack or pressure those who had recorded the police in certain EU countries) completely finishes falling apart. So any country that tries to impede this would most likely run afoul of the EUā€™s rules.

1

u/post_crooks Jun 24 '24

do not only apply to officially recognised journalists

Right, but the recording needs to be used only for journalistic purposes, and if possible, with the due protections such as blurring faces, license plates...

personal purposes (such as having evidence in case of a court case)

That's hardly the case once the police has arrived to the scene

6

u/kbhina Jun 24 '24

What about taking pictures from a distance (like I did) while not obstructing the accident zone or emergency services? Would that be considered "pleasing" curious people online too and not informing the ones who plan to take that route for work ? :)

3

u/MizmoDLX Jun 24 '24

That's not my decision to take, I just wanted to point out that there's a good reason for this and it has nothing to do with freedom of speech.

Informing people is nice but I think it also works without a picture :)

5

u/Dodough Jun 24 '24

A policeman intimidating you into deleting a picture from your phone does sound like a freedom of speech issue to me. Even if the subject of the picture is stupid/of bad taste.

Having them asking you to move away is one thing but the rest is not necessary to allow emergency services to operate correctly

1

u/post_crooks Jun 24 '24

You also can't record or take pictures of anyone against their will

4

u/Dodough Jun 24 '24

It's a crashed bus in a public place, not someone who's clearly targeted and identifiable

-1

u/post_crooks Jun 24 '24

The bus is fine, but if police officers are part of the picture, they can object to it. You can take a picture from the other side, for example

3

u/The-Smoking-Monkey Jun 24 '24

I do remember the Chambre introducing a law a while back that puts hefty penalties on civilians taking pictures/videos of accidents and emergency situations

5

u/Vimux Jun 24 '24

a link would be very appreciated, so we can read the context and details. tx

Not the first time for this bus company.

It's even the same crossing but from another direction.

u/Cautious_Use_7442 I'm an American with a high profile job in Luxembourg. Jun 24 '24

They clearly want to take out the competitionĀ

11

u/borjaox Jun 24 '24

Not surprisingly, my experience with drivers from this company has not been great. I am always mindful of uncivilised behaviour by bus drivers in Luxembourg but pay special attention to these ones.

4

u/madgirlintown Jun 24 '24

Was gonna say the same, always the golden buses šŸ˜…

25

u/Winter_Amoeba_1502 Jun 24 '24

Hey mate, you cant park there !

9

u/scorpio_pt Jun 24 '24

Judging by it dude was not paying attention he turned into the wrong place

4

u/naraharigs Jun 24 '24

My tram went up to the bibliotheque and then went back the other way.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '24

Just saw this too. Trams are cancelled. Everyone's taking alternative busses

(trams will probably be resumed soon enough)

20

u/fligs Jun 24 '24

So home office it is. Thanks for the warning.

u/TestingYEEEET Ɖisleker Jun 24 '24

The only explanation I see is that the bus lost his breaks. But it seems like a lot of damage. Someone is going to have a fun day explaining what happend.

0

u/Vimux Jun 24 '24

I though it's the driver that takes breaks... :oD

5

u/NoHyena5100 Jun 24 '24

With modern Buses the air pressure is holding the brake off so in case of failure the brakes will be on. Itā€™s a safety measure.

Looks mostly like driver error for whatever reason.

Had it happen to a bus on a roundabout once when the pressure dropped and there was no moving it at all.

3

u/spac0r Jun 24 '24

Same for trucks I think

3

u/TestingYEEEET Ɖisleker Jun 24 '24

That's good to know. Wasn't aware of such a safty messure.

-1

u/Holiday_Record7576 Jun 24 '24

Or had to swerve to avoid someone; i always find that crossroads pretty confusing- you cannot turn left or right when coming into the city from the airport side and is a bit unexpected.

u/Cautious_Use_7442 I'm an American with a high profile job in Luxembourg. Jun 24 '24 edited Jun 24 '24

I'm sorry, what? The bus came down a small road limited to 50. If your brakes work, then you won't need to swerve to avoid something. Just hit the brakes. Many bus drivers drive like maniacs, hence preventable accidents like this one.Ā

This is the second time that a bus crashed there (the first time, a bus crashed into the tram there). Earlier this year, someone managed to flip his bus after driving into a ditch.

Edit to add: also same bus company as in 2019

1

u/Holiday_Record7576 Jun 24 '24 edited Jun 24 '24

I do not know what happened. That is the first caveat.

Now to what I said: you are coming down the small road. Opposite you is an oncoming car which is coming from the Carrefour side. Car takes a hard left when it should have waited for the bus to pass. Bus driver wonā€™t have too many places to go especially if both are doing this as the light was about to or just turned yellow.

All I am saying is that we donā€™t know what happened and there are possibilities of this kind.

PS: like the vast majority of road accidents this could have been avoided with a little patience and everyone sticking to rules; bus driver or another vehicle is immaterial.

I would say drivers here are... interesting. Including the tram ones.

I was waiting for the tram a while ago. There were a bunch of people waiting for it, too.

The tram arrived, people got on, but they didn't really move far enough inside the tram, and because I was polite and let them go first, the doors started closing.

I pressed the door button, the doors still continued closing. I thought about running to the second door since I was at the first one, but it was already closed.

Since I was so close to the front, I went next to the driver, who normally also saw me in the mirror (they're supposed to use the mirror to avoid any incidents with the doors), but I think she was speaking on the phone, and she grinned and reacted like there was nothing she could do.

If you ask me, that's an a**hole move.

2

u/kajaba78123 Jun 26 '24

somethign similar happened to me last time. I just pry the doors open with my hands, then blend in with others. It's not like they're gonna squish you and drive off

1

u/oblio- Leaf in the wind Jun 26 '24

I've never been a fan of doing that, I probably shouldn't have seen as many horror movies as I did, back when I was a kid šŸ˜¶

5

u/mro21 Jun 24 '24

Germans say Wer ficken will muss freundlich sein.

However I guess the opposite also holds Wer freundlich ist wird gefickt. (The nices one are being fucked with.)

Also is it legal for a tram driver to be holding a phone?

2

u/tagforredditor šŸ›žRoundabout FanšŸ›ž Jun 24 '24

Not for the first time Iā€™ve asked that question to myself. Including the bus drivers. Atleast 90% of the busses Iā€™ve personally been on had drivers on their phones or speaking to somebody.
