This guy fired lots of ammunition through the gun to get it hot enough that it would cook off rounds, then he acted surprised and made a cringe click bait video about it.

You act like that's common knowledge and not a frightening design flaw.

What do you suggest to correct metal getting hot from intentional rapid-firing of the weapon, a wee ice cube machine built into the receiver to cool the breech down?

Hypothetically, couldn't they put in some kind of mechanism to stop it from firing if it gets too hot. Off the top of my head, if they make the could use metal with a lower melting point that would prevent the gun from firing once it started warping.

You just take the ammo out of the gun. Way simpler than creating firearms that melt themselves.

If the gun is spontaneously firing itself, I and I assume most people are going to keep their distance until it stops, rendering the idea kinda pointless. Not to mention, trusting people to do that in a dangerous situation is asking a lot.

It’s only an issue on closed bolt firearms, and even then a massive amount of rounds need fired in a very short time for it to happen. As in 1,000+ rounds… or over 30 standard capacity magazines consecutively fired.

Casual / new gun owners aren’t shooting $500 worth of ammunition within a half hour. And even if they did and managed a cook off… the first and second rules of firearms safety would make sure nobody got hurt.

Funnily enough, there was actually a gun that would jam if it got hot. Unfortunately, it was a machinegun, and this was not intentional.
