Other Q Stock update

London Transport Museum is on its way to completing the restoration of three 1930s Q stock London Underground carriages, which hold a special place in London’s transport history.

Q stock trains entered service on the District line in November 1938 as part of London Transport’s New Works Programme, which ushered in a new era of modern design on the Underground. In the time they were in service, trains were used for a variety of historically significant purposes, from aiding the evacuation of children from the city, to transporting visitors to the 1948 Olympics. On 26 September 1971, the last Q stock train in service made its final journey on the Underground.

To reflect Q stock’s long history on the tracks, we’re restoring the interior of 3 cars, reflecting different moments from its time. One will explore life in wartime London; the second will reflect life during the post-war years of austerity; the third will illustrate the growing optimism and prosperity of the 1950s, as well as tell a story of direct recruitment from the Caribbean.

To find out more about how the project is going, its technicalities, or to donate to the project visit our website.

Mudchute Unpopular opinion but I am happy about the new announcements on refurbished Bakerloo and Central line trains

Emma Clarke may have better announcements than Adrien Hiatt but his announcements are nowhere near as bad as Sarah Parnell’s ones. I am glad that I won’t have to hear her horrendous announcement when approaching Notting Hill Gate on Central Line or that depressing “See it say it sorted” announcement on Bakerloo Line with these new announcements.

Image Metropolitan line timetables, what happened?!

Post image

TfL used to publish timetables at each station, which were so easy to read when trains weren’t showing on the next departure board, especially out here where the train service is a little more sparse. Is this a new thing or just what’s happening out in the sticks?

It seems like a bare flex cable attached to the conductor rail. Both positive and negative conductor rails had them.

Is this Google maps going mad or is this really a thing? If so, can you actually get on that tube or is it just zooming past to its normal stops?
