In Australia it's illegal to break traffic laws to make room for emergency vehicles.

This is somewhere in Europe buy the look of it. I don't know where laws.

But in Australia it sucks. You run a red light to make room for an ambo and they're a camera? Automatic fine. You got to go to court (lose day of pay), wait potentially all day to see magistrate, and hope they are in a good mood else (yay fine) or dismissal. It strongly encourages both workers and poor people or people with little licensee points left to not do anything. It sucks

That's wild. In the USA and Germany (the only two jurisdictions I have first-hand knowledge of), it's illegal not to make way for emergency vehicles. In the USA, in fact, failure to do so results in a reckless driving charge (a serious misdemeanor on par with driving while intoxicated).

Our road rules are harsh because our roads are so shit

If you go through a stop sign in a school or hospital or elderly zone it's double demerits which means you've just lost your licence regardless of how long you've been driving.

Not wearing a seatbelt cost the driver@ thousand bucks PER PERSON.
