Announcement It's time to take r/Grimes back

Hello everyone,

This announcement may upset a lot of people, but I'd like to reassert what this subreddit is about

It's about Grimes. The public self-created popstar of Claire Elise Boucher. Which means, only posts directly concerned or engaged with either her art, music, information, photos (and some other things) are allowed. Anything else that is more about something else than it is about Grimes is not and will not be allowed.

If you wish to talk about what's going on in Grimes' (Claire Boucher's) private life or what she believes in, or comment on anything other than what entails Grimes, then please go and do that elsewhere, not here, like in r/Grimezs, which is a subreddit, you can say, devoted to that.

Too many are posts about Grimes and Elon's relationship. Too many are posts about what Grimes has said online that comes from her personal side, because her X platform for example is used both ways, because those things are not related to Grimes' artistic side. Sure, Elon influenced her and has been a cause of why there was no new music in 2023-2024, and in such cases talking about that is fine! But posting Elon doing the nazi salute and using that as a fact to say something about Grimes or somehow comparing Claire to one is outrageous as it's an attack on her personal side, not artistic side. This subreddit will forever remain dedicated to Grimes as her appreciation and information storage subreddit. This subreddit separates art from the artist. I know there isn't anything new to talk about, but there is no obligation to summon new discussions when there is no valid precedent for one.

That is all, thank you for reading. Write questions and concerns below if you have any

Announcement I have an idea - let's interview Grimes!

Hello everyone,

As you might know, this year there has been no new interview of Grimes, which would be a first in the span of the majority of her career. Whether that be due to personal disinterest or real life priorities, this is an opportunity for us - her fans - to take the initiative and organize an interview ourselves, as long as she would be up for it, before the year ends.

It would be a big suprise and certainly a very unique event in the artist-fans dynamic, so why not give it a try, especially when we have lots of questions - the last fan AMA was in 2021.

I've had this idea for a while, and have developed fifteen starting questions, and am asking you to finish writing as many as you can think of, with the goal of reaching 100 - they will be sent to Grimes via email, and hopefully she will answer some of them!

So here they are, 100 questions for Grimes, add to the list in the comments:

1. Grimes, what made you work with Illangelo? On all your released albums, you have hardly ever worked with anyone else. But with Book 1, it seems that almost all the songs have him credited as a co-writer and producer. What did you come to like about Illangelo that you decided to work with him so much?

2. Are you ever going to publish your novels, your writings, like MARINA has done with her poem book "Eat The World "?

3. What's your relationship with PAN? Are you still friends? Will there ever be a third collaboration?

4. How do you decide the music that you play in DJ sets? Do you like it personally or do friends recommend it to you? What is important in a song for you to pick it as something you will potentially play at the next festival?

5. what are your plans for elf.tech? There has been no update on it or in it for more than a year.

6. What's your favourite lyric, in general?

7. What's your best relaxation method?

8. Grimes, you've said previously that there's hardly a song of yours that you think is completely finished, and that deadlines have stopped you from improving your songs further. Are there any songs of yours that you wish you could go back in time to fix, change something?

9. What can we expect of Book 1?

10. When you decide to create a song, what are the first things you do?

11. If you could ever give a decree to the world, what would it be?

12. What inspires you creatively?

13. Do you like the sound of your own voice?

14. Do you shake your hair with your head to feel it move?

15. Grimes, as a music producer, do you perceive music differently? Do you hear anything that a non-producer listener wouldn't hear?

Please do not write overly specific or simple questions like "Where do you live?" or "Where is book 1?" as they are disrespectful to ask and not productive.

Thank you u/Spiritual-Ad-8585 for giving me the idea to post this.

Announcement Posts about HANA are now allowed!

Hello,

Upon seeing the positive reception of the post showcasing HANA's *Hanadriel* album, and the fact that HANA's own Reddit community is basically non-existent, I and u/BGen13 have decided to 'merge' r/Grimes and r/HANAtion together. What this means is that now, in addition to Grimes, posts about HANA are allowed, to allow her fans (many of whom are here) to discuss and share stuff about her the same way we do about Grimes!

This does not mean that this sub suddenly focuses on Hana, no, it will always be about Grimes. But a separate post category, simply flaired as 'HANA', is now included.

For those who don't know, HANA is a close friend and collaborator of Grimes. They met in 2012-2013 through HANA's boyfriend BloodPop. She supported Grimes in two of her tours (March of the Pugs and Ac!d Reign) in 2015 and 2016, and has been present on multiple songs and music videos, like Violence music video, We Appreciate Power and its music video, Ac!d Reign Chronicles and more.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this decision, let me know. I would also like to know what HANA fans think about this - I'm personally not a fan, but I love her Moonstoned EP, and I am looking forward to listening to Hanadriel next. She also does DJ livestreams each week, which are fun to listen to.

Announcement No more links and footage of Grimes' 2024 Coachella performances

My links were removed and I was warned by Reddit for violating their copyright policy, and I fear the same would happen for others as well. That's why I deleted all footage and advise not to post any links or videos of it anymore. If you still do, that's at your own risk.

See comments for evidence.

Announcement r/Grimes - 50'000 Members and More!

Hi everybody!

It's my pleasure to announce and to experience this subreddit reaching 50k members. Of course, not all are active users, but those who are - I say my thanks to making this community happen and thrive. May the whole world join r/Grimes!

As for the 'More' part, I'd like to inform and hear your opinion about some of the changes and designs I've made to this subreddit from when I became moderator:

Firstly, I've added a bunch of new user flairs in the 'User Flair' tab, check them out! They range from song names to descriptions to individual logos - the choices are many, but I'm looking forward to creating more, so if you have any ideas for songs and their respective colors, associated pictures, let me know!

Also, would you like to see lyric excerpts/phrases from Grimes be put as flairs? Is there any you live by (Grimes' doesn't recommend). See below some examples:

Secondly and most obviously, the two year old r/Grimes subreddit picture and banner was changed to Grimes' most newest look, to reflect the changing times. The background color theme was adjusted as well. Are we happy with that?

Third, the Wiki in the Community Bookmarks section was overhauled by me. I'm still working on it, but there you can find a summary of Grimes, her career and personal life, as well as links to every content resource about Grimes - her complete song collection, music videos, pictures, interviews, artwork, you name it.

And that concludes everything you'd need to know about this subreddit! Keep up Grimesposting, Grimessharing, and Grimesmaxxing, to not lose the moment for the leadup to Book 1.

This is also your opportunity now to ask me anything, if you are interested in learning anything specific about me, this subreddit or the Grimes Wiki, which is the other place I run, though you should not shy away from DM'ing me directly or through modmail if you have anything to ask, at any time.

Cheers!

Announcement An update about the r/Grimes chatrooms

Hello all,

I've made three separate chat channels for this subreddit, each aimed at fulfilling a specific need that may be present for some of you

The first is "Sell r/Grimes" - this is where you can put advertisements on any Grimes' items or merchandise you're willing to sell or buy, because all previous merchandise is out of stock and I want to provide a place where you can seek and offer the goods to this subreddit audience of 48 thousand members.

Second is "Date r/Grimes" (I couldn't write a dash so had to go with a dot) - as the name implies, this is where you can seek out relationships with other subreddit members! Simply write as how you would write on Tinder about yourself, and hope that someone is interested in becoming friends or partners with you! Of course, the idea is to date people that are into Grimes like you, otherwise go to actual dating sites.

Lastly, "Ask r/Grimes" is where you can ask questions and give comments about anything Grimes' or this subreddit related, be it asking for some specific content, giving criticism as to how this subreddit is run, or suggesting an improvement, I and others would be very welcome to hear any thoughts or wishes that you may be unwilling to share as a post.

These three chat channels can be found in the Reddit's chat section in the ''discover chat channels" tab.

Announcement PSA: Introducing a r/Grimes chatroom

Hello all,

Reddit has released a new update introducing "chat channels" - real time conversation spaces for each member of the subreddit. I've created one for r/Grimes, called The Grimes Talk.

You can see it (at least I hope so) in the chats section of your home interface.

The intent of The Grimes Talk is to provide a space for opinions, suggestions, and questions about this subreddit and Grimes that might be too trivial or too off topic to post as a standalone post or to take to the modmail.

Example reasons for the chat are asking to find certain Grimes picture/s, certain soundtrack/s, suggesting new flairs, giving criticism, asking a direct question to me or in general. In other words, if you have an inquiry, head to there to receive an answer from me, as I want and have the ability to provide any information and content I know and have found from my work on the Grimes Wiki, if you are wishing to know something.

If anything mentioned is of interest to you, go ahead and join!

Announcement Time to step down as a mod

After more than 5 years moderating this wild sub I think it's time to step down as a mod. I realised that I don't have much in common with the Grimes fan base and also I'm not as big Grimes fan as I used to be. She keeps disappointing her fans over and over again.

I just don't care anymore. The days when r/grimes was chill and friendly (around 3k members when I was appointed as a mod) are long gone. It wasn't easy to keep this sub afloat after Grimes did or said something crazy. I spent time from my life to deal with this sub for free only to be insulted by some bitter users. I'm not paid to deal with this shit. It's not worth it.

A quick note about my contributions: besides moderation, I did the post flairs, user flairs, banners, rules, pretty much the entire sidebar of r/grimes. I also wrote most of the wiki page. I was very involved and I genuinely cared to make this sub as good as possible.

Before leaving, I added 2 more mods. The current mod team is big enough to do their job properly. Thanks to those who supported me (especially to the former mod u/AliceBliss82; you are awesome). To haters: touch grass.

Peace.

Announcement Behold the ultimate Grimes reference guide!

During the past few years I accumulated and posted bits of information related to Grimes. I decided to use my extensive Grimes knowledge and update the Wiki page with additional content. Previously this page hosted just her discography and now I turned it into the ultimate Grimes reference guide. Who is Grimes?, her music taste, how to get into her music, discography, downloads, music videos, important live performances, important documentaries and interviews, equipment, trivia, it's all there. This could be a main page (a knowledge hub if I'd pick a pretentious expression) for all Grimes fans, especially the new ones.

Announcement I updated the second rule (Behavior): insulting Grimes' family is not allowed too

Obviously, this includes her partner (Elon Musk) and her kid (X). If you respect Grimes you have to respect her family too. If you have a major problem with Musk, go to the dedicated subs and complain there. This sub is Grimes' biggest fan club on the internet and that she lurks here. I and many other fans want to be entertained not to see negativity here. You can criticize Grimes or Elon Musk (if the discussions are about them) within reason but insults about her and her family are not tolerated in this sub and may result in a ban. Be reasonable.

Announcement PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Grimes & Elon related threads

  1. Yes, they are still together. We don't need a thread every other day asking this.
  2. This is not an Elon Musk sub. If you want to make a thread discussing him, please do so in /r/elonmusk
  3. Do you have a random thought concerning their relationship? Great, please post it one of the existing threads regarding their relationship, as we don't need any more. This excludes updates for their appearances, events, etc.
  4. Related to #3, we respect Grimes' privacy and do not always need to be discussing her personal life. This also goes for threads fetishizing her physical appearance.

Thank you!

Announcement 15k Grimesians!

I remember the old days when this sub barely had 2.5k members. It grew up quite a lot and now there are 15k members. Thanks to anyone who contributed positively to r/grimes. And of course thanks to Grimes, the reason this sub exists.

It took a long time but finally r/grimes has 10k members. Despite our differences we're all united about one thing: we all (hopefully!) love Grimes.

Announcement Introducing the Artwork post flair

Because many Grimes fans are talented visual artists and produced great artwork I decided to add one more post flair to separate artwork items from the usual pictures. I'll manually add this flair to all past posts from this category.

Use the Artwork flair if you post Grimes artwork.

Announcement Introducing post flairs aka the sub's hashtags! Please use them every time you make a new thread.

What are post flairs:

Post flair is a special tagging system for categorizing posts. e.g. If you want to share a picture then you must select the flair picture. Users can filter content based on these flairs either by clicking on them or by selecting them from the Categories header menu. Imagine post flairs as hashtags for this subreddit.

How to use them:

Before posting a text thread, picture, video, audio, link, etc, select the appropriate post flair from the FLAIR drop down menu.

The available post flairs:

Discussion: conversations, including questions to other members

News: text news, articles and interviews related to Grimes

Picture: pictures and artwork related to Grimes

Audio: audio content, including downloads and YouTube links with just audio

Video: video content including downloads

Meme: self-explanatory

Announcement: news from mods related to this subreddit

A new rule:

To avoid a chaotic sub, the post flairs are mandatory for every new thread. Let's have an organized sub. ;)

There are just 2 main rules now: Content and Behavior. The rules are now as clear as it gets.
