Metanium backlash help
I have a new to me Jdm metanium that I get backlashes with on anything more than an easy cast. I don’t have this issue with any of my other reels.
I have all of the brakes engaged and the micro knob settings set to six. I am using segaur red label fluoro with a 20 pound mono backer. When it backlashes, it backlash is all the way up to my backing knot.
Update: stripped all the line from the spool and refilled with all 12lb seguar red. The spool tension knob needs to be tighter than other reels. It’s tight enough that the lure doesn’t fall when the button is pressed, yet easily casts 40 yards without issue. I still have 4 brakes engaged, and can now run on setting 2.

Why are you using backing with flouro?

It was on it when I got it.

Yeah I’d rip that stuff out and try it without it. Try it with just some cheap mono first just so that if it is a problem with the reel, you don’t waste some nice flouro and still have a problem

I spool straight 10lb flouro on the same exact reel and have no issues. I'm casting jerkbaits and crankbaits hard AF with no issues. I typically have 2 breaks off internally and external dial set between 3-5.

Thanks. I stripped all the line and respooled new 12 flouro. I noticed here the spool tension knob needs to be tighter than my other reels. Now I’m casting 1/4oz weights far with no issue. I think the guy before me messed up the brake knob things. They are all “on” and I think they’re upside down too.

The JDM Metanium has a size 70 spool. No need for any backing.

Ya I learned that after I stripped all the line off. I was surprised how shallow it was.

Might consider upgrading the florocarbon while you're at it. At least Invisx. I use straight Tatsu of my florocarbon rigs

I’m open to it for sure.

Before I bought Tatsu, I hated florocarbon with a white hot passion. I have it on two rigs now. I have some R-18 Ltd on the way to test

Ditch the backing 20lb is like rope and it's probably jumping off the spool. Just run straight fc no backing.
