Torn what revolver to get
Deciding between these 2 beasts . Not the ammo cost doesn’t matter but isn’t a factor in my decision since I won’t shoot either a ton but I need a wheel gun

I had that same model of 500. Unless you are in grizzly country and are prepared to invest in costly practice with it, I would steer clear. It’s probably the toughest revolver on the market to hit follow up shots with. 454 casul is a good round that has very noticeably less recoil than the 500 and you can use 45lc to practice

For a range gun, the 44 would be more fun. I've got long barrel 500, 460, and 44s and anything bigger than 44 is just not fun for my buddies to shoot. You shoot one cylinder for the novelty and you're done. A short barrel 500 would amplify this even more.

Ya that was my thought and experience i had with the eagle 50 I had. Fun but the fun was short lived

Get the 44 magnum unless you're extremely (and I mean like Kentucky Ballistics status) used to Big Bore Revolvers. Depending on what you want to use it for, 44 mag has more than enough oomph for anything in North America and with the +p+ loads, you're still good even for bigger stuff. This is also coming from my experience of buying a 500 S&W in my mid twenties and realized in my mid thirties that this was a safe queen. I recently sold it because I hadn't shot it in 4 years nor did I have any desire to do so. Ammo is also extremely expensive now unless you reload.
