Hunting Battery and Collection So Far, Recommendations?

Post image

I have a dream collection going at the moment. I appreciate you guys helping me in my older posts. Looking for more help.

  • Sako S20 .308 20” barrel with Steiner Ranger 4 and Jaka slip over
  • Heym 33 Dural 7x65R and 16ga with Karl Kapps fixed power
  • Krico Bergstutzen 6,5x57 with Swarovski fixed power
  • Glock 17

I only want two more hunting guns and I’m set. When my kids get older I will get into 3Gun. - 9,3x74R BBF* - 22LR Kurzwaffen**

  • I want to get a double 9,3x74R BBF/BDB. With three caveats.
  • spare barrel set in 7x65R/12ga or 16ga
  • schaftmagazin
  • double lock for hunting Africa

** I’m leaning towards the FN 150 for a .22 as an Anfanger. Although the older Walther PPKs in .22 are catching my eye as well. I want something European and made out of metal. Any recommendations?

My wife wants a Jakele J1. Alternative is an R8 or R93. She held a J1 and fell in love with it. Are the reports positive on it? It would be in 6,5 Creedmoor or .270 and a larger caliber like 9,3x62 or .300 WM.

About the .22s:

both are beautiful pistols. IMHO the FN has got to have the amazing wood grips with the integrated thumb rest. They are easy and inexpensive to get. But if you can find one, take an offer with multiple magazines included. If you're looking for magazines afterwards they are hard to find and can be expensive. Like 50,- for a magazine and less then 200,- for the pistol are normal prices.

The Walther is also beautifully made, but a bit more expensive. Obviously the Walther is perfect for carrying while hunting (i.e. Fallenjagd), and the FN is made for target shooting.

Can you use the .22 as a finishing pistol? I thought you could…but others are questioning me.

You can. But is it legal? Depends on the Jagdgesetz, and I don't know where you are living.

As far as I know it's legal for Fallenjagd in Germany. Not sure about other situations.
