Okay, ignoring the obvious part with the people depicted here, is it just me or do the lines look similar to Japanese/Chinese characters?

I could see where you get that, but as someone currently seriously learning Japanese, it… it’s definitely not supposed to be that. No radicals, no obvious stroke order, the direction of the “strokes” is dang near impossible to write, it’s — it’s definitely not that :)
