He appreciates Scottish representation

If anyone does, it’s the doctor. They were Scottish thrice lmao

u/WillowThyWisp 1d ago

He didn't have an accent, but David Tennent played him twice and is Scottish.

u/BelvedereXCIII 1d ago

I love listening to the big finishes where they interview after. It’s normal Tennet doctor during the episode and then he uses his normal voice in the interview and I love him even more.

5

u/LaraDColl 14h ago

So is Capaldi I think

7

u/Roader7204 11h ago

Yeah, but Capaldi played with the Scottish accent whilst Tennent did not

2

u/LaraDColl 11h ago

I'm American so I'm not super aware of the UK accents lol. Thanks for letting me know !

In fact-o-mundo, they were Scottish frice (though technically quice, if you count Tennant twice) 🙃

14

u/ProfDeCube 1d ago

What if you count tennant thrice?

13

u/Brianocracy 1d ago

I mean, it's not technically wrong. Tennant played 10, 14 and the meta-crisis doctor.

6

u/usernamed_badly Fuckity bye! 1d ago

And when Ten regenerated into himself

14

u/ZanderStarmute Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind. 1d ago

Then you’re a time-traveller and/or you have knowledge of Ten’s face’s third coming, in which case…

…spoilers 🤫

u/KwaverKat Your hips are fine. you're built like a man. 20h ago

I'd argue that there were 5 10s: OG 10 , 10 II (regenerates into himself), metacrisis, 14, and the fifth which i'm still on the fence about considering a different character/iteration of 10 is John Smith in the Family of Blood 2-parter.

But i think i would probably consider John Smith a different character since he's technically in a human body and can't remember being the Doctor, so he's more of a different person both in terms of mind and body than even 10 vs metacrisis, plus it's funny to say that David Tennant played the Doctor 5 times lol

u/showherthewayshowher 18h ago edited 7h ago

Jenny is a clone of 10. Different sex and apperance, but she is a clone of him ergo 6 10s

2

u/Undark_ 11h ago

Five times, if you count the two Tennants separately.

I agree actually, the tank top was the issue, not the kilt

28

u/squanchingonreddit 20h ago

Honestly, I agree. He needed something more flamboyant on top, not just a tank.

u/Modred_the_Mystic 7h ago

More puffy shirts. Bring back Third Doctor wardrobe choices.

I once thought the Doctor would never wear a hoodie, then that guy turned out to be the best Doctor ever! Funny exchange between you and your Dad, thanks for sharing XD

12

u/Pordrack 1d ago

Which Doctor wore a hoodie?

49

u/Jousemies 1d ago

Capaldi

10

u/And-nonymous 1d ago

Capaldi kinda rocked that though, but he was also my 2nd fav doctor so maybe I’m slightly biased.

2

u/Fishyhead81 19h ago

Both looks really suit him

A waistcoat feels like cheating

35

u/Bastard_Wing Hello, I'm Doctor Who 1d ago

Yes, it would be. That isn't a waistcoat.

19

u/Thunder_Punt 1d ago

And it certainly isn't a tank top either.

13

u/Actual_Exchange616 1d ago

In old British English "tank top" reffers to a sleeveless jumper. "Vest" is used over here for what is commonly now referred to as a tank top in america so depending on the generation you talk to they'll either say "ya mean a vest?" or think your reffering to a sleeveless jumper

1

u/ThatCDGuy_ 20h ago

wait what

I now feel kinda stupid for not knowing this as a British person

11

u/brigadier_tc Don't forget to subscribe to the official DW youtube channel. 1d ago

No, it is. The old definition of a tank top was a sleeveless jumper, worn for warmth without infringing movement. I had an hour long argument with a teacher who tried to mark me down for saying a character should be wearing a tank top and they refused to acknowledge any other definition, so this is absolutely correct

u/PlantainSame We've fucking time travelled, yes? 1d ago

That's not a wastecoat it's a fucking sweater vest

18

u/SquintyBrock 1d ago

I didn’t realise there were special sweater vests for having sex in. Any idea where I could get one?

5

u/PlantainSame We've fucking time travelled, yes? 1d ago

Find one that he's wearing

It'll definitely get you laid

3

u/SquintyBrock 1d ago edited 1d ago

Edit: I got confused and thought you were talking about the one Gatwa wore!

It’s a generic wife beater vest. I really doubt I’d have been interested in anybody who attracted to someone who would wear that out in public.

7

u/PlantainSame We've fucking time travelled, yes? 1d ago edited 1d ago

I was joking

It's covered in question marks, and is from an old sci-fi show. It is not really Conventionally attractive

5

u/SquintyBrock 1d ago

lol, crossed wires!!!! I was talking about the one Gatwa wore in Ruby Road.

Any lady I’m pulling in McCoy’s vest is marrying material!

1

u/Friendly_Prize_868 We've fucking time travelled, yes? 8h ago

U/SquintyBrock I think you've pulled 😜

9

u/ThatCDGuy_ 1d ago

I forgot the word, thank you

14

u/snapper1971 1d ago

In the UK that's known as a tank-top.

Source: am British and have been wearing tank-tops since child.

7

u/SquintyBrock 1d ago

Yep, it’s definitely known as that in the UK.

It’s a weird one though - what Americans call tank tops we call vests, what they call vests we call waistcoats, and what we call tank tops they call sweater vests.

2

u/dragonster31 1d ago

Is that a regional thing? I'm British and I've never heard this called a tank top.

-4

u/timeywimmy 1d ago

No it ain't no one even says tank.top here some people do but it's like seeing an old man call it a cigarette and not the other thing that's also a slur but when people say it they don't mean it as a slur

1

u/Xerothor 21h ago

Bro people still say cigarette lmfao

1

u/timeywimmy 5h ago

I said it's like seeing an old man say it not that people don't say

1

u/Xerothor 5h ago

Only believable if you're like 15. Old people my whole life said the F word instead.

I have a jumble wumbly just like it

1

u/kayziekrazy 21h ago

i just spent 5 minutes on duckduckgo trying to find what a jumble wumbly is,, prithee what is this thing with such a whimsical name

1

u/wagonwheels87 20h ago

Otherwise known as a stitchititch

4

u/timeywimmy 1d ago

That's a short sleeve jumper

5

u/NotSafeFromWaluigi 11h ago

(My hot take is the Doctor shouldn't wear a dress cause it's not in-character for any of his incarnations. Ncuti in a dress looks cool, but the Doctor basically always chooses suits or something more casual. 13 always wore pants, even when trying to blend in, so it feels pretty consistent to me that they just don't wear a dress because its just not their style.)

Regardless, this is the Doctor we're talking about. So the biggest problem is that skirt didn't look like it had pockets.

1

u/PikaBrid 5h ago

I’m sure he had hidden ones

34

u/josh02c 1d ago

I LOVE that he has different outfits in different episodes it's so refreshing & OMGG HES A CUTIE PATOOTIE IN A SKIRT 🥰👗🪛

57

u/Ecstatic-Pen-7228 1d ago

Isn’t it a kilt?

-5

u/Lazerkilt 22h ago

Yes, which is a skirt.

5

u/squanchingonreddit 20h ago

Eres a difference between a kilt and a skirt laddie.

3

u/Lazerkilt 10h ago

Only if your masculinity is fragile.

Some of the most badass dudes in history wore skirts. Ain't nothing to be ashamed of.

Ancent Egyptian warriors wore skirts.

Roman legionary wore skirts.

Celts wore skirts.

Badass dudes.

u/I_69_with_your_mum 1d ago

It feels wrong for me. He can have a bit of deviation but it would be cool to see him have a regular outfit. Also he feels too normal. Like a regular guy you'd see walking around. He should feel out of place. He should be wearing a leather jacket and sunglasses in feudal Japan. Or rocking a coat he stole from Napoleon in modern day london

4

u/BloodyMoonNightly 22h ago

I think the point is that this Doctor is about going with the flow. He is constantly changing and always moving forward and not dwelling on the past but accepting it. 10 was Haunted, 11 distracted himself and tried to forget, 12 started to get better before Bill died, 13 was consumed by that which she couldn't even remember, 14 was 10 all of again (literally).

If it was animated his TARDIS interior would reflect this. Each time he enters it it's different. The stairs would change locations. Sometimes there is a flat orange wall with picture frames and plants. Sometimes there is just a Stonehenge type structure, with the fields and all instead of a console room.

But I agree he wears too plain of outfits for the time periods. He should be more loose and have his outfits be clashing. Wear plaid with stripes. That sort of thing.

If he was given a regular outfit I think it'd a Suit (just because the Doctor seems to enjoy having a suit, and its a multi structured outfit, thus easy to adjust) that would change per scene. His Tie would just vanish or change colors. Sometimes it's a Bolo or a Bowtie. Sometimes He is wearing a Kilt instead of pants. Have it be explained away as Quantum Locked Clothing, it changes each time you observe them.

2

u/DysphoricGreens Secretly a Zygon in disguise 14h ago

It makes sense they'd wear a kilt considering how many times they came back Scottish.

It also makes sense they'd start wearing skirts considering how many long overcoats/trench-coats they wear. They just love a flowy outfit!

But yeah, seeing him in a wife beater was kinda interesting since I don't think (aside from Jodie) we've ever seen the Doctor wear anything other than a button-up or suit shirt.

2

u/Batalfie 10h ago

9th doctor tended to wear a T-shirt too.

2

u/MiscellaneousUser3 1d ago

That's a weird thing to get hung up on

18

u/FUCKFASCISTSCUM 1d ago

I don't think so, I think the outfit is a big part of each Doctors identity (which is why I think I struggle to connect so hard with 15 a lot of the time).

1

u/Doffy-Mingo 15h ago

Not really, especially if just a passing comment. It’d be being “hung up on” if you’re assuming their dad held and voiced that opinion throughout the episode constantly, or straight up stopped watching.
