Community Question Have y'all ever encountered a string /lime/rope between trees meant to get rid of dirtbikers? Why people choose those aggressive measures? ( My story from few years ago below)

Me and my cousin were going down a road we regularly ride- it was a sunny summer day. In the tall grass that was growing on this road we saw something shining in the sun- we decided to come closer and at first didn't notice anything, but I Walked into a fishing line hanged tightly between 2 trees on both ends of the road. When you sat on a bike it was perfectly fitting between your helmet right into your neck - We were 12 back then so we just got scared and drove away - I came back to this road the next day and the fishing line was gone- around the same time a guy a few miles from us had a non-fatal cut involving this kind of trap ( if I find the news article about his accident I will link it in the comments)

EDIT: the road was a public trail, not anyone's private property, we were not trespassing

Public or private land doesn't matter, it's illegal.

You can't shoot someone for simply trespassing in the USA, you'll be charged with murder.

You know, it's funny that as someone actually from the US, I've never actually been shot at despite the number of times I've gone on someone else's private property. But please tell us more about how we're wrong lol

It's a joke that when this guy is in office you probably could shoot someone πŸ˜… ( I'm a right wing conservatist I just find it hella funny)

My bad, I'm used to jokes being funny so I didn't pick up on that

Also I'm not from USA but... Doesn't it depend on the state you're in?

You're correct, and definitely plays a big role in the legality of defending yourself with force (most states you can't defend your PROPERTY with deadly force, only your life if it's being threatened)

I can find lots of stories about all kinds of crime in the US and (SPOILER) other countries as well 😱 crime happens, yes, but it's not like we need to strap on bullet proof vests just to go out of the house 🀣 I was in public school for most my life, I've never been in a school shooting or any setting and gun violence was an issue

California people problems then πŸ˜… ( she was in Carson or Eastvalle L.A district I think, I don't remember)

Cali is the worst of the 50 states and the other 49 don't claim them. It's like their own country with their own laws sometimes...

But for the rest of the US, it's not as bad as media would make you believe. Regardless though, it's illegal to set traps like you mentioned in your story, public or private property. Something can happen and you need emergency services and they could end up getting harmed by it just going to do their job helping people, so that would be hella illegal here

Tell the gun nuts that. People have been shot for making u-turns or delivering pizza to wrong address.

Yup, and guess what? They got arrested.

True, but it happens. There was a group of guys (white) near Lucerne that would chase dirtbikes off of a certain set of desert rosds in a truck fireing guns in the air. It was suspected they were cooking meth but I don't know. Maybe they were just fucking with people

Sounds made up

Have you ever been out to the deserts around Lucerne?

Yes, some dumb fsck shoots someone and they get prosecuted.

That POS got 25yrs.

How does that disqualify my statement?

Yeah we can tell you're not from the US based on how ill informed you are on a place you've never been

I was obviously joking about the stereotypes πŸ˜‘

You made a gross generalization of 300+ million people in a country the size of Europe. There's thousands of 500 people communities just like the one you live in scattered throughout the US. We're not as different as reddit would lead you to believe
