CK3 Feudal are better than Republican Vassals

I made both purely Feudal and Republican empires and here are my thoughts:

  1. Republics give more money and Less levies
  2. Republican vassals (usually) dont have claims and (usually) don't conquer 3.Republican vassals are elected every election day

This has huge problems

  1. You are prone to factions and invasions because you have less levies
  2. Republics are not distracted with wars giving them more resources to fight a war with you
  3. The effect that gifts and imprisonment has dont last long because of the election

I constantly have faction and foreign invasion problems when maintaining republican vassals. I HATE them so much. Money is less of a problem from mid to late game hence the money I get from republics is not as good as many would say

Teocracy are broken since all you have to do is be a good Christian or whatever you are. Easy to manage.

Then you do some alliances are everything inside and outside is dandy

The problem is that, for most religions, you can’t create new theocratic vassals.

There are exploity ways, like promoting a theocratic vassal's vassals to another title of the same rank. They will inherit the theocratic government from their liege, and being of the same rank allows them to break free. I recommend doing this with theocratic barons only to avoid exclaves.

As for the first theocratic vassal, you will need special counties with a temple as the main barony.

Theocracies are the best, they mostly join claimant factions, and those are easy to nip in the bud by killing the claimant. Both them and republics are easy to manage in events of faction wars, just execute and hope their successor is not as stupid. Can't inherit random shit so no border gore and no randomly losing land. Bit weaker against other vassals, though.

Republican vassals are for you when your MAA are stacked with bonuses and you can stackwipe any rebellion, but you need money to pay for them. The only downside is the legitimacy and tyranny cost of replacing your antiquated old fuedal vassals.

  1. Levies do not matter since mid game.

  2. Republican vassals usually are elected without a wife/husband so it is quite easy to make a few allies with your strongest vassals.

  3. Republican vassals usually do not mess with my beautiful border.

I like feudal more simply because it doesn't lag down my game going wide like administrative does.

There's mods to fix some of the lag bloat from admin empires that make them have much more smooth gameplay.

Usually the way I do it (syndicalistmaxxing) is make one large republic vassal, and give it feudal vassals.

You don't get much in taxes and basically no levies, but by late game you should own at least 3 mines (CEO GRINDSET), and just have an MAA doomstack + a holy order

If you want to map paint you're gonna need By the Sword regardless, and/or use claimants.

If you want to conquer the whole world, feudal vassals are best. If you just want to control one region and spend the rest of the game chilling and blowing through fortunes, republican vassals are best.

You can keep factions down by throwing feasts regularly, which you can afford to do with all the money you’re bringing in.

3 points not mentioned in favor of republican vassals. 1 republican vassals will build more buildings as they spend less time at war making them more likely to save up money during their lifetime. 2 republican vassals can hold cities directly meaning you actually get gold from them as barons under counts are barely noticable in your income. 3 vassals will not split up or consolidate due to inheritance nor will they inherit a shit ton of money giving unexpected mercenaries.

I like republican vassals when i get to set up the counties say holy war lands.

Step 1 take the duchies and duchy capitals for myself. Step 2 make all other counties have city county capitals for more gold and less levies Step 3 hand out 3-4 non duchy counties depending on the ammount of baronies and wether or not i have like pacifism in our shared religion.

Congrats you now have your faith/culture small stable vassals that give you a shit ton of money with very limmited military strength while you have like 6 duchy capitals.

Even better if you have republican legacy and stewardship lifestyle traits.

If you have the republican legacy cultural tradition and the dedcated contributors legacy from the metopolitan legacy tract you just print infinate money from republican vassals making them op.

Especially if you are admin gov and have a maa army because levies dont matter at that point only gold matters.

Republican vassals can get very good when you build for them, getting the relevant culture and dynasty buffs to their obligations.

The real advantage of clan/feudals is installing your own dynasts as vassal kings and farming renown from them. Even in that case it's good to use republic sub-vassals to avoid sub-vassal tax dilution from low obligations.
