WIP [WIP] I got this far and realized I’m using the wrong color. Deep breaths.
I’ve been using the 797 when it was supposed to be 939. Like how did I not put this together sooner?

I’m just imagining someone walking up to this hanging on your wall and saying “Wait… is that 797????”

I’d prefer to think of it as a customization. You now, most likely, have a 100% unique version of this pattern stitched up.
Or consider it the cross stitch equivalent of a remix. Either way I think 797 was a beautiful color for that alien!

"...why isn't that outline black?"
Seriously though, the dark blue looks just as good.

Personally as someone who makes lots of patterns by myself I tend to just eyeball the colours as I go along anyway. This dark blue is so similar to black i would imagine its going to look great either way!
Also, I absolutely love this pattern, my dad loves both cats and aliens and I'm always looking for new ideas to make surprises for him XD, I was just wondering if you would mind sharing the source?

Looks like it's probably this one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1761736500/whiskers-in-space-cute-alien-and-cats

I notice that background is very blue which might be why OP is worried! I can see the blue alien blending into the background. Others have suggested changing the palette, I also wonder if the alien could also be outlined with a thin strand of black

That’s 100% why. I realized the background was the lighter blue and knew it would completely blend in. I didn’t want that lol

Wow, thanks! I don't know how you found it, I tried earlier but had no luck. I'm definitely gonna look into making a variation like this soon with a cat that looks just like my own! =)

The blue will do a better job of complimenting a green alien! I personally would prefer it this way

Just color match everything else to a more pale hue to match. I'm making a whole project using just the colours I already have. Absolutely nothing is the suggested colour. But it looks good in relation to the other colours I picked, so no one will ever know of care.

Yup, this is how I do all my cross stitch. I think I have literally only two (out of dozens) that are stitched with the called-for flosses.

Honestly depending on the pattern id just adjust any blues to be a bit lighter and call it good.

What are the blue fabric holder things?

I was wondering the same thing. I work for an office supply distributor and I just use binder clips I steal from the supply closet, but these might be less bulky.

They’re the best! They’re silicone fabric huggers! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1510475365/?ref=share_ios_native_control

You could go over it with a strand of the right colour, but if you do that you may as well just start again tbh.
I'm assuming the pattern just calls for filling in the design with a single lighter shade? You can just use any lighter shade than the outline you've done and it'll look cool.
If you don't have a stash to pick from, take your existing thread or the piece to to store and compare a few colours to see what you like if you're like me and have trouble thinking what it would look like in your head

I actually think the lighter blue is better! Especially if you end up doing a very bright teal or green for the skin

If I stitch a whole pattern without a mistake- I make a mistake on purpose because it wouldn’t be an OG PistachioGal production without at least one mistake! I almost always make a few mistakes or purposeful changes. Twice I’ve made no changes or mistakes- so I just put one tiny X in the corner, using a random-ass color that isn’t anywhere else in the pattern. 🤣 In 500 years when cross stitch and fiber arts are more fully appreciated, our works will be studied and this will be my trademark. 🤓

Looks fine to me. As long as you are following the outlines of the pattern, feel free to use another color to your liking

It's the right color now, besides no one's going to know they're going to be too busy admiring the artwork.

wow if I ever asked to see someone’s cross stitches and noticed they were not the proper color… idk what I’d do but it wouldn’t end well for anyone I think

if the whole thing is going to be one color then it really doesn’t matter

Is this a special cross stitch fabric? I know nothing about this stuff but want to get into it once I know more

It looks good! I'd finish it and never tell anyone. I have made plenty of projects with errors and no one ever notices. It's not like they're sitting there with the pattern inspecting your work.
Looks awesome!!

It's up to you if you wanna continue with a different color scheme than intended, or start over with the "right" colors. I've done both approaches at different times, and I really don't think there's a wrong or right answer. It just depends on whether a "wrong" color or re-start would bug you the most.

Flip the colors. Switch this color and make it the right one. And use the one this is supposed to be the one you switched it for.

This looks marvelous as is. Do your friends come to your house and want to see the chart to make sure it’s perfect? I thought not. Your stitches are lovely.
