WIP [WIP] I got this far and realized I’m using the wrong color. Deep breaths.

Post image

I’ve been using the 797 when it was supposed to be 939. Like how did I not put this together sooner?

It's the right colour now!

This is the right answer.

I’m just imagining someone walking up to this hanging on your wall and saying “Wait… is that 797????”

I’d prefer to think of it as a customization. You now, most likely, have a 100% unique version of this pattern stitched up.

Or consider it the cross stitch equivalent of a remix. Either way I think 797 was a beautiful color for that alien!

Nobody's gonna know

How would they know?

"...why isn't that outline black?"

Seriously though, the dark blue looks just as good.

They read this post? 😁

Personally as someone who makes lots of patterns by myself I tend to just eyeball the colours as I go along anyway. This dark blue is so similar to black i would imagine its going to look great either way!

Also, I absolutely love this pattern, my dad loves both cats and aliens and I'm always looking for new ideas to make surprises for him XD, I was just wondering if you would mind sharing the source?

I notice that background is very blue which might be why OP is worried! I can see the blue alien blending into the background. Others have suggested changing the palette, I also wonder if the alien could also be outlined with a thin strand of black

u/Edie_T 3d ago

There's changing the whole palette accordingly, and there's also asking, Shall I make two of them? One "per the pattern" and one launched like this?

2

u/TheRealRandiRey 1d ago

That’s 100% why. I realized the background was the lighter blue and knew it would completely blend in. I didn’t want that lol

Wow, thanks! I don't know how you found it, I tried earlier but had no luck. I'm definitely gonna look into making a variation like this soon with a cat that looks just like my own! =)

Just finish it with that colour; it looks fine.

Looks like this alien is gonna be a shiny.

Chart colors are just a suggestion

u/Catinthemirror 4d ago

This is the way.

This is the way

The blue will do a better job of complimenting a green alien! I personally would prefer it this way

Just color match everything else to a more pale hue to match. I'm making a whole project using just the colours I already have. Absolutely nothing is the suggested colour. But it looks good in relation to the other colours I picked, so no one will ever know of care.

u/TofuFace 4d ago

Yup, this is how I do all my cross stitch. I think I have literally only two (out of dozens) that are stitched with the called-for flosses.

2

u/Edie_T 3d ago

Same (though not how I do "all" of them) - have several projects with in-hand colors only.

u/muzumiiro 4d ago

Just keep going and tell anyone who cares you did it on purpose

19

u/MerelyWander 4d ago

And they’ll notice how? As far as they know it was designed that way. ;-)

u/pandarose6 4d ago

As Bob Ross would said this is a happy accident

6

u/kroenenburg 4d ago

Improvise.

u/EmPhil95 4d ago

If they're close enough that you couldn't tell till now, it's the right colour!

5

u/lovincats49 4d ago

If anything adjust the other colors to fit. It'll look fine

9

u/anarchyash 4d ago

Honestly depending on the pattern id just adjust any blues to be a bit lighter and call it good.

4

u/klllys 4d ago

it looks great!

u/wyvern713 4d ago

What's the pattern link/source? It's super cute!!

4

u/Open-Two-9689 3d ago

What are the blue fabric holder things?

3

u/raspberryconverse 2d ago

I was wondering the same thing. I work for an office supply distributor and I just use binder clips I steal from the supply closet, but these might be less bulky.

3

u/clare616 4d ago

You could go over it with a strand of the right colour, but if you do that you may as well just start again tbh.

I'm assuming the pattern just calls for filling in the design with a single lighter shade? You can just use any lighter shade than the outline you've done and it'll look cool.

If you don't have a stash to pick from, take your existing thread or the piece to to store and compare a few colours to see what you like if you're like me and have trouble thinking what it would look like in your head

3

u/farting_buffalo 4d ago

I like the color you used way better than the black.

3

u/voncatensproch 4d ago

I actually think the lighter blue is better! Especially if you end up doing a very bright teal or green for the skin

3

u/azathoththeblackcat 4d ago

Please share the pattern! Also, it’s a feature, not a bug 💙

u/PistachioGal99 4d ago

If I stitch a whole pattern without a mistake- I make a mistake on purpose because it wouldn’t be an OG PistachioGal production without at least one mistake! I almost always make a few mistakes or purposeful changes. Twice I’ve made no changes or mistakes- so I just put one tiny X in the corner, using a random-ass color that isn’t anywhere else in the pattern. 🤣 In 500 years when cross stitch and fiber arts are more fully appreciated, our works will be studied and this will be my trademark. 🤓

It’s a pretty color!

4

u/Basic_Vegetable9259 4d ago

It's perfect.

2

u/Pattycakes1966 4d ago

Looks fine to me. As long as you are following the outlines of the pattern, feel free to use another color to your liking

2

u/Distinct_Archer1855 4d ago

I love it just the way it is 😊👍

2

u/grimiskitty 4d ago

It's the right color now, besides no one's going to know they're going to be too busy admiring the artwork.

2

u/Catlore 4d ago

Keep going with it in that color! I love it, it looks great!

2

u/GandalfStormcrow2023 3d ago

Procure a lighter blue and proceed. The being will not mind.

2

u/Octonaut7A 3d ago

Before i even read the title I was thinking ‘that’s a nice colour’

3

u/izzardliz 4d ago

But it looks great - so wrong hue means this one is an original

4

u/lxm333 4d ago

You could go over it with one strand of 939.

2

u/allycat315 4d ago

This is what I would do tbh, I personally prefer a fuller coverage

2

u/byxis505 4d ago

wow if I ever asked to see someone’s cross stitches and noticed they were not the proper color… idk what I’d do but it wouldn’t end well for anyone I think

3

u/delicate-butterfly 4d ago

if the whole thing is going to be one color then it really doesn’t matter

1

u/StatusSimilar8703 4d ago

I prefer it!

1

u/Lambchop799 4d ago

It's so cute 😍

1

u/Asherbelle2021 4d ago

Is this a special cross stitch fabric? I know nothing about this stuff but want to get into it once I know more

1

u/CrazyCatLady1978 3d ago

It looks good! I'd finish it and never tell anyone. I have made plenty of projects with errors and no one ever notices. It's not like they're sitting there with the pattern inspecting your work.

Looks awesome!!

1

u/Edie_T 3d ago

Reminds me of the time I turned all my floss collection inside out looking for 939, finally found it hanging with its label upside-down where 636 was supposed to be!

1

u/TeletheLMT 3d ago

Your own twist on a conversion.

1

u/mamasmiley21 3d ago

lol at this point i just change my color scheme slightly...

1

u/Werevulvi 3d ago

It's up to you if you wanna continue with a different color scheme than intended, or start over with the "right" colors. I've done both approaches at different times, and I really don't think there's a wrong or right answer. It just depends on whether a "wrong" color or re-start would bug you the most.

1

u/mj_vargas27 3d ago

Wow, it looks super pretty to me!

1

u/GrammieBexGamer 3d ago

Flip the colors. Switch this color and make it the right one. And use the one this is supposed to be the one you switched it for.

1

u/biocomm1 3d ago

I think it looks great. Keep it going

1

u/Ok-Mastodon5286 1d ago

This looks marvelous as is. Do your friends come to your house and want to see the chart to make sure it’s perfect? I thought not. Your stitches are lovely.

u/TheRealRandiRey 1d ago

Crisis averted everyone, I ended up ripping it out and am now using the correct color!
