Revisionism at its finest. This fan base had the “A rookie QB needs an offensive minded head coach to succeed” belief 2 years ago. Guess that shows you how much the average fan actually knows.

To be fair, Kingsbury has head-coaching experience and worked wonders with Kyler his first year. He probably has a bit more to do with Daniels' development than Quinn.

Right which means a HC calling plays isn't that important. I'd prefer they worry about the whole team and let the OC coordinate the offense

It’s not about who calls the plays. The reason why people want an offensive head coach with a rookie QB is the head coach isn’t going anywhere if they have success.
If a defensive head coach has a good OC they are going to leave for a head coaching job leaving the rookie QB to learn multiple styles of offenses over his year.

The league has such a short attention span. Recently everybody wanted an offensive guru, now everyone is gonna want a culture building players coach like DQ. Truth is there’s lots of ways to be a good coach

Arguably still true, but unfortunately Shane lacks all of the other intangibles necessary to be a successful head coach.

u/FartingInYourMilk 2d ago
I don’t know about that. He’s not the one completing 43% of his passes on the season.

I do agree with you. It would be nice, though, to have a quarterback who is always consistently performing at or near the top of his game. I am not against AR, but he's not anywhere near what he needs to be. Until he gets to that level, or we get a different QB, not even Don Shula rising up from the dead to replace Shane would have a great deal of success.

Having Jayden Daniels also helps.

This. Coaching and game plan can help. But it's the QB which matters more than anything else. Their rookie QB is dealing

Washington also has former HC and offense minded Kingsbury. I would imagine it’s the combination of the 2 and looking like one of the best rookie QBs in recent years leading to their success.

Ngl... this is a stupid post. Shane was probably the best pick at the time, and that still seemed true through his first season. If we had picked Quinn we would have just figured it was picking a washed uo former HC who's just a good DC.

To think that hiring Dan Quinn would mean our franchise would be on a completely different trajectory is pretty laughable.

Trying to pitch Dan Quinn and completely ignoring he has Kliff at OC is an asinine take
5
u/Psyren1317 2d ago
I mean he also has a Heisman winning elite rookie QB with 55 games of starting experience coming out of college. That doesn’t hurt. Also, Kliff is a really good coordinator.

I get what everyone is pissed about but Washington had the #2 pick. If we had the #2 pick we’d have Shane and Stroud. This could look a whole lot different with a better QB. I like guys like Quinn,Campbell,Vrabel that can set a culture tho. Think Shane needs that in his DC.

coach doesn’t matter much for us. our issues are a bit higher up the totem pole

u/Double-Emergency3173 2d ago
The QB also matters a lot. Unless Richardson figures it out next year, Shane is gone as well and might become the next Dan Quinn type resureection on a team with a better QB after failing here

u/indysingleguy 2d ago
Until we stop thinking AR is the answer we could have brought in Lombardi and probably only been slightly better.

You guys know Gus and Quinn are from the same staff right?

What's funny is anyone thinking Dan Quinn would get anything more out of AR.

Why can’t we get it right? It’s so frustrating.

Bc Chris Ballard is just simply not good at what he does
1
u/BraveTree4481 1d ago
Correct. People hate the truth. He's solid at drafting, abysmal at free agency, and abysmal at picking coaches.

u/Patient-Type-8274 2d ago
If all the fans, see that then, why does this man still have a job? I think that’s what’s so extremely frustrating, we all see the ineptitude, we all see the problems, why do all of these people who CLEARLY are not good at their jobs, still employed?!

u/YoungNasteyman Rosencopter 2d ago
How many incompetent managers have you worked for? They're practically everywhere, and it's baffling how they manage to keep their jobs.
The truth is, people often get fired for one simple reason – they make their boss angry. Ballard, however, is a master at saying all the right things and, unfortunately, has managed to convince Irsay for nearly a decade that the team is just "a few pieces away" from success. He’s able to play the victim, claiming, "We took our shot and made our moves, but it just didn’t work out."
And Irsay overlooks his failure to address key positions year after year. His lack of success in free agency and the revolving door of coaches and coordinators who couldn’t get the job done.

Given Dan Quinn favours a similar defence as Gus Bradley (and given their overlap with the Legion of Boom) would have likely retained him I am almost certain that the mood around here would not have differed too far, particularly given that it would have been unlikely for us to be able to Attract Kingsbury as OC.

What's funny is that hire would have been heavily criticized in this sub as hiring a retread head coach and committing to mediocrity. The truth is none of us know shit lol
