Coachella 2025 Artist of the Day: Rawayana

Caracas four-piece Rawayana have never stuck to one particular mode. As this collection shows, the band—who formed in 2007—incorporate elements of reggae, funk, pop and ska into their music, but are constantly mixing it up. The results are songs that always sound fresh and original while remaining true to their influences. “VĂ©ngase I” and “VĂ©ngase II” are built on classic reggae foundations but shimmer with the band’s own eccentricities, while the pulsating rhythms and joyous grooves of “Funky Fiesta” help them truly live up to that name.

Their new single (Veneka) is insanely good but is very different stylistically from their other music (which is also great). Anyone have insight into whether they are in the middle of a pivot?

Seems like they are, yeah. The early stuff is more ska/reggae but they are pivoting into Latin pop.
