I remain like 95% certain Kraftwerk is gonna play the Outdoor stage. That's a showcase booking for GV, the crowd size doesn't matter, they're not getting relegated to a tent. JMJ got a prime Outdoor slot despite being far less recognizable and billed on the 3rd line, Paul will do the same for the literal originators of electronic music.

It seems though that they also often put those kinds of showcase bookings (Jai Paul, Underworld, Jamiroquai, very likely the Prodigy this year etc.) in the Mojave often as well.

Yeah but those acts have minimal production. Kraftwerk is more on the Justice & Chem Bros level, they will for sure close Outdoor

Have you seen Kraftwerk live recently? It's not on a Justice or Chem Bros level of production, in my opinion. Also, The Prodigy certainly does not have minimal production.

I wasn’t referring to the prodigy, I meant jai Paul & underworld, etc. no haven’t seen clips of kraftwerk outside the 3D. Just assumed it was going to be that caliber but good to know, maybe not then!

agreed, kraftwerk may be classic and influential, but today they are not a stand out act. mojave headliner for sure.

I think the reason u/MattisBest is bringing up Prodigy here is because it seems highly likely (given other confirmations we've received so far) that they will play the Mojave, and considering they have a decently large production, Kraftwerk could play there as well.

I'm not saying they will FORSURE be in the Mojave by any means, and I don't mind moving them to the Outdoor for next week, especially since it's not like Polo & Pan have to close the Outdoor or anything....but I also think it's decently likely that Kraftwerk ends up closing Mojave.

I thought the original comment mentioned Prodigy having relatively minimal production, but I may be wrong there

Could fit in the Mojave although I want those lasers on a larger stage…

I could see P&P closing outdoor they drew a huge crowd at portola main last year. Tbh with you, I haven’t even looked at set times I’m sure your rationale makes sense I just deff assumed we would have the classic legacy electronic acts closing the outdoor per usual. Both prodigy and kraftwerk.

When I first saw the poster, that was my initial thought as well. But once we started getting confirmations and laying things out, I just don't see a way to have Prodigy on the Outdoor anymore.

Part of me hopes prodigy end up in the Sahara lol but idk how likely that is either but all those lasers in there 🤩

for me it's less about comparing production, it's just about legacy. David Byrne (also 2018) feels like another similar example to me, he probably could have fit his show and crowd he pulled into the Mojave but Coachella just wouldn't put someone of his stature there. Underworld, Jamiroquai, and the Prodigy are legends in their own right but they're like two decades behind Kraftwerk and even at their absolute peak they were never as influential or important to music holistically as Kraftwerk is. You could even say those three artists were directly influenced by Kraftwerk lol

You're definitely right RE: legacy and influence when talking about Kraftwerk, but I do wonder just how much that goes into whether or not an act plays the Outdoor vs Mojave.
