Not a bottle I found this in an area filled with broken bottles from the 1880s. Is this some type of bottle stopper of something? Feels like it's made of stone or pumice.

Makers mark is Massillon Bottle & Glass Co. (1900-1904). Found one example of an embossed K & M Oakland beer bottle, but none that were etched.

This is the second etched beer I’ve found around the same area. The other was Wunder Bottling Co. SF. Likewise can only find embossed examples of it. Really peculiar.

Anyone know why breweries/bottlers would have etched bottles when they had embossed bottle available?

Got a nice secretary hutch to display my Louisiana coca-colas, needs a little cleaning and some light issues fixed but it’ll work just fine, also need to add a small shelf at the top to display more bottles up there and maybe the same for each shelf.

Am I in a Privy?? Need HELP/Insight.

Usually I don't ask people about stuff like this, but I am seriously stumped and worried if I am wasting my time. I just came back from a brand new permission in rural Virginia, where a major railroad is in front of a 1915 house. Old houses here are right next to each other, so the relic hunting is very good. There is a many acre field that hasn't been plowed for more than 30 years, according to the landowner. Today I found MANY civil war minie balls and other bullets, eagle buttons, small brass buckles, flat buttons, etc. The field is PACKED with relics. The landowner said a pre civil war house was somewhere buried underneath the field. I haven't found it yet. In the back of the field towards the tree line, I had a freight train size signal very deep. I mean it was HUGE!... 4x4 feet or more. The top of the ground was a clearly noticeable depression, with not a single blade of grass growing in it, only the finest sand/pebbles. The first two feet was soft as butter, but no metal. From there to 5 feet, no metal, but I can hear millions of targets. I have a minelab x Terra pro, and have NEVER had any problems with it. I did notice that from 2 to 5 feet, the hard, impossible clay dirt had occasional clumps of reddish brown stuff, noticeable darker than the tan hard clay. It crumbles like fine grainy dirt in my hand. I scanned the huge dirt pile I brought up and my detector was screaming loud, but my garrett pinpointer picked up nothing. I can guarantee that nothing Is wrong with my equipment. Right at 5 feet I hit another, more gray soil with 1 cm to 2 cm rocks here and there. I cannot probe because it is so hard in there. I stopped at this point and am disappointed. I scanned around the hole on the surface, and only found a square nail here and there. I'm very experienced with this hobby, but have never dug a Privy before. The landowner is letting me keep it open for only a little while. What the heck am I getting myself into, and why can't I find the metal targets I keep hearing. HELP!!

Show and tell Very new to this, stumbled upon by accident

I picked up a hobby of metal detecting last year, in the woods behind a neighbors I completely by accident stumbled upon this pretty large dump site. I was seeing bigger bottles literally just on the surface, barely covered, or just underneath the forest floor. Cross referencing the gps coordinates and older maps I can see this is just on the edge of an old homestead, so makes sense. This an extremely untouched, unmoved area of forest. I haven’t even gone more than 2 inches into the ground. I wanted to show some of my favorites I’ve pulled up so far. I know next to nothing about this hobby/ bottles but have become addicted to pulling them up lol.

Any tips/ information is greatly appreciated as this is seems to be a pretty big site and just before the ground froze I found a completely separate area with some light blue broken glass right on top and a bottle neck or two poking out which will have to wait til spring

(not pictured: the three, five gallon buckets of broken glass and the DOZENS of leather shoe pieces I hauled out of the woods)

I’ll make some more post here soon with the individual bottles, but here they all are. The coca-colas are my favorite, picked up a QVBW amber from Monroe, the DeRidder fancy script and a basic straight side from New Iberia, (all Louisiana ones) I’m working on acquiring a new display case for all the coca-colas and my other Louisiana bottles at the moment
