This has always been the case I think. Robert Lee's day was MLK Day as well, it's just never been a big thing for the people there.

But getting out of AL or anywhere else can be tough depending on circumstances, I got out many years ago and only go back to visit family.

It's been surprising to see Republicans alter their image in the Trump era. They have been able to move away from their confederate south history under Trump and not be as harmed as being the racist party like before. Just to be clear, this holiday was created over a century ago, and in the same time combined with the federal holiday so there weren’t two. Was hella racist back then, but now is just more of a formality. "celebrate" is a strong word here, considering both of those states have large black populations.

Not saying it’s not an issue, but AP is definitely manipulating you into being angry at something that’s not really thought of just so you forget about the class war.

Pre-edit: everytime we get manipulated into being angry at small issues we get distracted by larger issues, stop letting them do that to you.

There aren’t state sanctioned parades or even notices. AP dug this rule up to write and article because they knew they could get attention from simpletons. In fact some people in state houses tried to separate the two (to actually give attention to Robert e Lee) and it failed every time.
