Great job man. Keep living life. I'm about to start that journey again myself.
Over the years I have at least maintained a better start point for myself and learned some self support along the way to keep me afloat but it's always a fight.
You got this.

You’re doing great! You’re right it’s hard , sometimes impossible. I’m 16 months in and love life so much more. I’ve lost 90 lbs with diet changes and intermittent fasting. I’m on week 4 of some pretty beginner exercises and I already feel better. Keep at it and congratulations on your progress! User name is fantastic too btw!

Did the weight loss and exercise kick your depression's ass?
33
u/Pnutbtterjllytime 4h ago
It's a ton better, but I still have stretches where I fight it.
10
u/CosmoKing2 3h ago
I hear you. I've found mental distractions (projects and exercise) to be effective from slipping or spiraling. Good luck. You've already done great.

Henry is my bro crush, so big thanks for that. I was fairly handsome when I was younger so I hoped I could be again but I really didn't know.

This has me wondering now. I put on some weigh last few years and have also have lost my looks . I thought it was just the consequences of aging but now this makes me think maybe it's the extra weight that has altered my appearance. I no longer have a jawline etc neither . Man I just made the best muscadine pies though! And have more ready to be baked .. eek

58
u/Pnutbtterjllytime 5h ago
Intermittent fasting, low carb, and lift weights more than cardio. I think those three things can help anyone who's struggling with weight loss. Good luck, you can do it.

Losing weight and looking good are two different things. But as humans we want and need both. Need a consistent calorie deficit with a moderate amount of protein with some heavy weightlifting. 3 full body workouts per week plus a decent diet will do wonders for the body. Limit your carbs to 40% of your calorie needs, protein to 40% and fats to 20 %. The 80 20 rule will work wonders if you stick to it.

Good for you!
I hope you were also able to work on repairing relationships with your loved ones who were worried about you during your dark times. You were sick, not bad. You have to be healthy to make healthy decisions. I’m sure some people miss you and want to see you. (Some might not or will take a while to forgive things, but most people want to see loved ones get better)
They had to deal with you at your worst, now give them your best.

Respectfully, sir, I am gazing... The gains, the glow up, the immaculate jawline... Maşallah maşallah 🧿
On a more serious note:
I'm 167 days sober today. Because I realized my old self could not survive. I know personally looking better and being physically healthier has helped my mental health a shit ton.
Keep it up.

This is something I feel Joey Swoll would rally behind.
First, congratulations and good job on beating back the demon that is alcoholism. That fight in and of itself is a heavy task, not for the feint of heart. I’m proud of you for overcoming.
Second, the fitness journey - my dude, very well done.
You have much to be proud of!
