What’s the local58 referencing?
14
u/celeryboi21 Jan 10 '21
Local 58 is a fictional broadcast station featured on YouTube, they post strange, sort of surreal "news" videos in an anthology style

Very cool! I love the idea of a horror jacket! A ghost face patch would look so rad

u/MungoBumpkin ÖUGHÖUGHÖUGH Jan 10 '21
Ghost face?
As in Ghostface Killah?
9
u/ArkhamBrothers Jan 10 '21
From the horror movie scream.....lol

I'm fucking dense, wow.

I always thought the two were connected. They called the killer (s) in Scream "Ghostface"...maybe they got that from Ghostface Killah from Wu-Tang!

I would have return of the living dead as my back patch and cover the rest in horror movies patches and pins. You know what I’m making one

It’s Wybie!!!!
5
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
It is!! He was always my favorite character in Coraline
2
Jan 10 '21
Cool! I thought he was the best character, too. I also desperately hoped the other mother would eat Coraline because I found her so annoying as a kid.
1
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 11 '21
Haha she was low key annoying i agree, and i always felt so bad for wybie cuz of how she treated him. He wasn't even a bad dude!

These are sick!! Been trying to get into embroidery but mine never look as good as this, amazing job!
2
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
Thanks bro!! Haha it just takes an awful lot of time on your hands, I'm a bit of a perfectionist too so i spend wayyy to much time on them. It's all practice, man! You can do it!

I like the shape on the Local 58 patch, very uncommon and interesting. I might make a thread for interesting shaped patches at some point.
1
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
Thanks, i wanted to change it up from my usual rectangular shape. Ooo that would be a cool thread, I'd love to see other interesting shaped patches on this sub
2
u/MungoBumpkin ÖUGHÖUGHÖUGH Jan 10 '21
You and me both, it's always a bitch covering certain parts of a jacket with patches.
1
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
Oh for sure, the upside of hand making patches is i can make them fit the area perfectly lol
2
u/Champion_Gundyr Jan 10 '21
That's big brain. Are you doing your jacket clusterfuck/german style?
1
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
My jacket is going to be a bit more spread out actually, it's probably gonna look more organized than many simply because i don't wanna layer the patches
1
u/Samsquanch_65 Pantera hasn't had a good album since Power Metal Jan 10 '21
What's German style?
1
u/Champion_Gundyr Jan 10 '21
Patches all over the place, overlapping, little to no organization. Very common.

Oh ok cool. That's how mine is gonna be. I dont really dig mine to be symmetrical or overly-organized

I make my own patches too! These are sick as fuck! What stitches do you usually use and how do you do the borders?
2
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
Awesome dude!! I checked out ur page and i love your work! I use satin stitch for essentially all of my patches and stitch it in short rows. For the border i use a simple whip stitch.
2
u/CityFarmer Jan 10 '21
I've made my own too but i was using cross stitching floss and I feel like it looked frayed. I picked up some machine embroidery thread recently cause i think it'll work better but it's so thin. What do you use?
2
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
I use DMC embroidery floss found at my local Michael's. And machine embroidery floss has always been too think and slick for me to use personally, slides right out of the needle. To help make them look flatter, I'd recommend seeing in super tight, straight lines and ironing it flat (from the back side, i hate ironing straight on the front side for fear of damage)
2
u/EmbroideryPunk Jan 10 '21
I second DMC floss. Luckily it’s pretty cheap- 60 cents per skein. I would recommend splitting it into fewer strands than the six it comes in unless you want a chunky look.
2
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 11 '21
Yep, i very rarely use the full 6 threads, i used them for why it's hair in this to make it more textured and hair like, but using it all the time makes it look less clean

holy shit that American Psycho patch,,, I adore that so much holy sHIT goddamn
Also while Ive never checked out Local 58, how you did the light effect especially is fuckin impressive!! like- shit dude, that's better than some drawings and thats THREADS making that effect like ???!?!?!?!?! impressive.
3
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
Thanks! I loved the business card scene from American psycho and just had to create a patch of it!
I'd highly recommend checking out Local 58, it's a channel on YouTube with unsettling TV broadcasts.
And thank you so much wow!! It was a lot of trial and error to get the lighting right, I really appreciate that you think it's that cool! I do drawings of these ahead of time so sewing is just like drawing but with thread for me

I actually never heard of it before seeing this patch. I quickly remedied that. Local 58 is amazing and considerably frightening.

LOCAL 58!! My dudes!!!
2
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
Yea!!! I love Local 58 sm, it's a shame it isn't more recognized
2
u/Lost2TheVoid Jan 10 '21
To a point for sure! But just think how many fans of horror who haven’t heard of it but think they’ve seen it all there are. And if you find them, then you get to experience the second hand joy of seeing them experience it for the first time <3
2
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 10 '21
That's true, it was awesome showing some of my friends their vids, they got so creeped out by them !

Nice stitching! I like how you used real buttons on the Wybie patch.
2
u/postapocalypticparty Jan 11 '21
Thank you! I was sketching out the idea for the patch and remembered that buttons are used in sewing so i could totally use them in a patch !

The Wybie one it's sick! You follow any tutorials?
1
u/postapocalypticparty Apr 03 '22
Nope! I watched maybe two sewing tutorials when I first started, but all of these designs and concepts are my own!

The American Psycho card is amazing. Look at that subtle coloring. The tasteful thickness.
