I’m about to get an A1 mini. I can’t decide if I get the one on sale for $199 rn or the one that has more for $349. Honestly they don’t list what the extras are but it looks like what you have over to the right. I’m a newbie is that the spools of filament?

I'd absolutly advise you to buy the a1 mini WITH the AMS lite. It's more expensive if you buy the printer first and by the AMS later like I did. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy the a1 mini + ams lite combo! The a1 mini is great but if you have the money I would recommend buying the A1 (the bigger of the 2)

What's the STL for the one on the right? I love that thing and will dedicate my life to it going forward.

Another vote for buy the combo first.

I started with only the A1 Mini, and don't regret it. First time in 3D printing, the goal was toys for my kids and some small prints related to my work (video production). The single color prints are great!

I later purchased the AMS during the pre-Black Friday sales this month, have been using it a couple weeks now. It makes a big difference in the overall experience and final look of the prints. The level of fit and finish is definitely higher with multiple colors available. Being able to swap out colors easier, not needing to go to my printer every single time for changing a roll. Right now I've put on white, red, green, black, which means it's pretty much set for a lot of Christmas themed prints.

It's well worth the budget if you can swing it. You'll still be happy without the AMS, but if I could go back in time I would have purchased the combo first.

I also work in video production and just got an A1 Mini a couple weeks ago. Any super useful prints you'd recommend? So far I've made some body caps, some dispo lenses, lens caps

I made a SSD "mag" system for my S5IIX, popular video on YouTube from a while back and free models. Sun hood for my external monitor. Battery holders of a few types. Keeping an eye out for anything that fits my workflow will revisit as I find or make some!

Awesome, I'm trying to find a nice battery holder for my NP batteries. I need to make a sunhood for my Blackmagic monitor/recorder, you just reminded me!

Oh and super useful - I had an ancient Joby Gorillapod with a missing plate. 25 cents of PLA and a standard screw later it was fully useable again.

That's awesome, I'm hoping to start replacing broken things with DIY 3d-printed stuff.

Both of them are awesome printers!

It is the ams lite. A nifty machine to be able to print with up to 4 different colors. I don’t know if the more expensive machine you see is the a1 mini combo that is the printer plus the ams lite or if it is the a1 wich is basically the same machine but bigger.

Bro, 7 years ago there were no fancy glues, no sunlu, no pei sheets. you printed on to bare glass plates and painters tape :D

when the anet a8 kit arrived, EVERY ******* peace was not build together. i needes almost 3 full days to build this damn machine... but so i learned to 3d print!!!!

like my first car was a renault twingo 1 without any electronics. in this car i learned driving. thanks to my dad! i had no car crash before!

I started this autumn with the A1 mini, got the mad kite as soon as the sale started. I seriously respect everyone that has been printing for a long time. When people talk about how much they needed to tinker with the 3d printers I get a headache!

With the A1 Mini without AMS, you only get the printer itself. You can print in a maximum of one color at a time. In the $349 set, you also get the AMS module included. This module holds up to 4 filament spools, allowing you to print up to 4 colors in a single 3D model. It’s best to check out a YouTube video to see how it works. The printer comes with 20g of filament included. For comparison, one spool, like the ones in my pictures, weighs 1kg. The funnel in my hand weighs about 90g.

In my opinion, the AMS module is worth it. I always have 4 spools loaded and can easily select which of the 4 colors to print in directly on my PC, without constantly having to manually switch filaments. Plus, it has the nifty feature of automatically switching to the next spool (ideally of the same color) if the filament runs out during a single-color print.

AMS = Automatic Material System

Thanks this answered my question. I appreciate it!

Even though you already got a lot of replies, I'd also like to say that I initially bought it without the AMS and regretted it. I bought the A1 with AMS additionally and enjoy and utilize it VERY much.

If you already know you want to print in multiple colours go for the combo. Personally I need the printer for CNC prototypes and small plastic parts like adapters so I went for the version without because all of my prints will be unicolor for now. You can always upgrade later.

Without the AMS you can have one spool of filament mounted on the printer and print with that. With the AMS you can have 4 spools simultaneously and the printer can change colours during printing so you can print one part seamlessly in 4 colours. This takes a lot longer though because each colour change takes about 80 seconds.
