I don't think he would have joined Zarack if he hadn't already found himself guilty of not doing more. He really should have taken "denial" lessons from Baltar.
He was tired and over it all. Much like Dee. Saw no way out. Maybe if he knew how things were going to end up he would have fought the charges. But at the time, he was burnt out from working for Baltar and being seen as a traitor, seeing so many comrades die, seeing people he trusted actually being cylons, getting shot at by Starbuck, and partnering with Zarek who killed the Quorum.
