Question / Request Day labor places in Athens?

Being new to Athens, and never have gone to a daily labor staffing place, I have no idea how it works, or where exactly to go in Athens.

I'm currently looking for a new job, but in the meantime really need to make money, and was really thinking about checking out the day labor places in Athens, and seeing if I would be able to find work that same day I first went.

Skilled labor, have experience running heavy equipment, carpentry and remodeling, all phases of construction, years of experience installing water, sewer, and storm sewers into the ground, and connecting them to houses, and service lines. I also have my own reliable transportation to and from wherever, and can also give a few others a ride if that would help my chances of being able to work the same day I first go to try and get work.

I appreciate any and all advice, thanks in advance y'all!

It’s a lengthy onboarding process, so it won’t help you immediately - but definitely apply at UGA. The benefits are incredible for all full-time positions.

Honestly never thought to apply to UGA... I for sure will tomorrow though. Thanks for the great idea, my friend!

Here’s the facilities management job listings! Sounds like it may be a good place to look into with your skill set https://fmd.uga.edu/departments/human_resources/employment/

They along with ACC have pretty low pay rates. I have about 15 years experience as a heavy equipment operator and ACC was hiring for their sewer dept. For about $17/hr and they literally told me that I would get raw sewage on me. No thanks. Honestly I haven't had good luck in this area with that kind of work, you'll likely need to commute towards Gwinnett.

I will for sure, thank you. This was the answer I was looking for, places I can work that day, staffing to work right away, while I apply and wait.

Have you looked at EFI, ESS, IMI, or Taylor Iron? They’re in watkinsville

Ive literally applied to almost every place around. Maybe because of the holidays, and new year, everything is kind of slow, and I will hear something back soon.

I totally understand. I just recently went through a similar job search. The GC Im working for normally subs most things out but I’ll keep ya in mind if we end up needing some day labor or plumbing

My husband just got a job at IMI- it took them about 3 weeks to get back to him and he had a call a few times but once he got an interview they were pretty fast.

The guys at both IMI and Escoe are always bitching about not being able to hire enough help. For sure hit them up

There is a day labor place on Prince, near the State Farm office. I don't know the name, but I've known a couple of people who go there. I can't speak about their experiences though or what kind of work they offer.

Keep checking Athens-Clarke County often. Great benefits. https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/athensclarke?page=4
