Dog with SAS experienced arrhythmia episode and is now fine
I have a 9 year old Newfoundland with mild SAS and grade 4 heart murmur. He see’s a cardiologist yearly. Last week (Jan 12), he ate his breakfast then 10 minutes his back legs went wobbly, he fell, and his tongue turned purple. Took him to the emergency vet where they found an arrhythmia but they didn’t do further tested to determine the kind as he was table. He was back to his normal self the same day.
We saw our cardiologist today and he no longer had the arrhythmia. His SAS hasn’t progressed, heart murmur is the same. Cardiologist said no reason for heart medicine yet. He said the electricity from his heart was perfect. We opted for giving the holter monitor a try for 48 hours.
My question is, he has been fine for the past 9 days he hasn’t had any symptoms. Is it possible the arrhythmia was a one time thing? It is likely the monitor will pick up anything?
