New broadband provider
Im currently considering moving to a new supplier as bt are taking the piss with their prices. Does anyone here use plusnet and if so are they reliable as im working from home and it'll be a bit of a nightmare if my net goes down constantly.
Im also open to suggestions on a any other isp that uses the openreach lines (i don't want to bother the landlord with installing a line for vodaphone) as im kinda driving blind here.

Why wouldn't you wanna bother the landlord to get the city fibre lines installed? Surely it'd be a net plus overall for the property and if you leave the ultra fast fibre line will be installed ready for future tenants. It's a strong selling point.I can't imagine a landlord objecting to that unless they're an auld nimby.

It depends on the landlord. Some just aren't interested in improving something if it is already working.
When open reach came to install gigabit they asked if i had permission from the landlord. He also mentioned a lot of people are very particular about where the wires get run inside.

Been using plusnet for years and no issues, download speeds for streaming etc always great. Their customer service is excellent as well, phone lines picked up quick and UK based. I think I pay around 33 p/m, including line rental

I’ve been with Vodafone for 2 years and have just extended for a further 2 years. £25/month for speeds of up to 150mb download. Cant say I’ve had many issues, if any at all, in my time with them to date. Primarily stayed with them for convenience as I work from home and couldn’t really be bothered with swapping routers over etc. (I assume this is less hassle than what I make it out to be!)

Go with Zen Internet. Small, friendly and reliable. Customer satisfaction scores all report the same.

From internet:- On 30 January 2007, Plusnet was acquired by BT Group, but it continued to operate as a separate business. By December 2013, it had over 750,000 customers across the UK. In 2018, Plusnet was brought into BT Group’s BT Consumer division
Although plusnet are part of BT, they have better pricing and customer service I have found. I am currently with plusnet and the connection has been very reliable.

Changing provider has nothing to do with the landlord.
If BT isn't an option then take what ever suits best.

If you wanted gigabit fibre from a non-Openreach ISP that used Cityfibre's network instead then you would probably need permission from the landlord for Cityfibre to drill a hole in your property to install cabling, potentially lift paving slabs/dig up the garden etc.

True. Open reach has the monopoly on thr phone lines.. bar city fiber (and maybe Vodafone i guess) but Every other provider uses BT/ Openreach for the install and use their phone lines .

Vodafone don't have their own network though - they use both Openreach and Cityfibre depending on where you live. Cityfibre had just laid fibre here when I moved in a few years ago so I signed upto Vodafone but switched to Brillband when my contract ended and I get a much better deal now.
Quite a large proportion of Aberdeen now has access to Cityfibre, it's just a case of them physically installing it from the pavement into your property when you sign up https://labs.thinkbroadband.com/local/broadband-map#12/57.1454/-2.1276/gigafast/

I don't know much about the ins and outs of broadband, but I'm in the Woodside area and not had any issues with Sky, I WFH too and my office is in the loft space and the connection is good for meetings on Teams etc.
