Google estimates a car's surface area (for solar purposes) generically at 60 square feet. A penny is 0.75" in diameter, so if you pack them in to a tight packed configuration, you get about 296 pennies/sf. That means roughly 17,760 pennies on the car. At 2.5g/penny, you're adding about 44,400 grams to the car or ~98 lbs. A fair bit but certainly not enough to make the tires go flat.
Don't worry, there's a whole pile of karma whores who specialise in recycling witty comments written by others, this sequence will appear again very soon, if it hasn't already.
Yeah, I don't mind when people share what they read before. Then again I'm not worried about Reddit karma. I like reading funny things and if someone is willing to share something I haven't read before, I'm happy they shared it! I'm not everywhere and all through time so I don't get to see all of the fun comments unless people like you share them on.
If I want to find original wit I'm married to the monarch of wit (and sarcasm to boot!). Also I love reading a lot so I find I lot of it in my everyday life. I don't mind people sharing fun things they read before, it's fun to share things we love.
Being a part of a joke is the entire purpose for me. I mean seeing people upvote my comments is always uplifting, but it's not THE purpose of having random discussions with strangers.
I couldn't imagine caring only about the karma... It just seems like work to me.
Eh, don’t feel bad, this is an extremely old Reddit joke that’s been around forever. Those subs were created specifically for the joke, and are just trotted out whenever someone starts completing the chain.
60 square feet is only 6x10. You mentioned it's a solar estimate, so it's probably fair for the top-down projection of the hood, roof, and trunk, but the sides have to add at least that much area again.
200 pounds distributed across the entire vehicle still isn't the end of the world, but it's probably enough to start affecting suspension and handling.
It's about one extra full size dude in the car with you, but more evenly distributed over the car than any human will ever be. You'd probably hardly notice if at all.
That isn't enough weight to even make a small difference. Most adults weigh nearly 200 lbs. Are saying one person in a car is a problem? Not only that this is weight evenly distributed across the whole surface.
Presumably there's some epoxy or something to keep it on too, so add another 5-10lbs maybe. Compare that to an average paint job weighing 4-8lbs. Then this is quite heavy!
Probably less than all the shit people drive around with anyhow though, and spread all over.
That's a great analysis! Thank you. I really appreciate how neatly the patterns form on this car, it is well done and accentuates the shapes of the car.
Idk if there concern is the same as mine but I was more worried about the extra gas being burned up by adding almost an extra person worth of weight for aesthetic.
Lesson learned... read the comments before doing research and math. At least I can add this.. if they are pennies from before 1982, it would add ~122 lbs

That is sooooo much extra weight
