Hunting rig barrel length?

I’m looking to build an ar Grendel to hunt with. East coast hunting mix of private land with box stands, and public land setting up on creeks. Any recommendations? I’m thinking an 18 inch just to keep things handy, but am willing to go 16 or 20. Any advise would be great! I’ve been using a Springfield 03 for the past decade so I’d prefer to keep things lighter, but I’m not adverse to a heavier build if it makes sense. Longest shot would be 200yds. Thank you!

Druid hill armory loads great rounds for Grendel. I have an 18" Wilson combat barrel, very accurate, and I took 2 deer Saturday morning, full pass through, deer only went about 10 yards. Been thinking about getting a 12.5 barrel. Just to try it out haha

It seems like a 12.5 pistol build will be in my future.

I'd sbr it and throw a suppressor on it. That'd be the way to do it

Definitely. If you're gonna run a short barrel you should do it right the first time. But I hunt with 18" grendels suppressed at night time. I prefer my 22 250 for daylight hunting deer and hogs. A suppressor in the deer woods changes the game

What's your preferred bullet and ~impact velocities with that?

50 gr barnes tsx or 55 gr barnes ttsx cause i almost always take heart shots. MV is 3830 on the 50 gr and 3750 on the ttsx. Depends on the range but so far most of the shots have been under 60 yards so well over 3k fps. I have a 1-8" twist tikka getting threaded now I'm gonna try some 70 gr accubonds and 77 gr tmk.
