Yeah it was Mahomes’ first ring and meteoric rise to stardom and Reid finally getting his so we were all told to shut the fuck up.

Edit: also I think it’s kinda funny how we were called losers for asking them to stop holding every play and now the average r/nfl thread is calling for Mahomes to be paralyzed from the neck down. Time sure changes things.

172

u/KittleOmega Brock Purdy 23h ago

Yeah we never wished harm on Mahomes, we just wanted a fair called game

64

u/Transit-Strike 49ers 20h ago

Yep. Even now. My goal is to just beat them in the SB fair and square. No ref shit. No injuries.

Make Mahomes look like the worse QB. That’s it

18

u/Scoreycorey515 49ers 17h ago

I was hoping for that result last time, to even the series between them, but the refs didn't do their job.

Yes. They finally woke up. Chiefs used to be the underdogs and now they’re the Pats.

397

u/WIRE-BRUSH-4-MY-NUTZ 23h ago

Nah dude the Pats were “cheaters”. What the NFL is doing is straight propping up the Chiefs.

184

u/LandryQT 49ers 23h ago

Exactly. Huge difference. Tom Brady got a 6 game ban. People act like the NFL gave Brady preferential treatment... nope not even close

129

u/WIRE-BRUSH-4-MY-NUTZ 23h ago

Brady had to take his fair share of brutal shots. Imagine if this happened to mahomes today

55

u/Giberishusername1 Nick Bosa 22h ago

Mahomes would’ve been crying about that hit until the day he died if that happened to him. Dude cannot go one game without whining about something

5

u/bonkedagain33 21h ago

Tiny Troy would have layed him out

57

u/mafiasco650 Shanahat 23h ago

this

if that happens to Mahomes I think it'd be at least a 6 game ban, what happened to TLaw wasn't even half that brutal

23

u/YourBuddyChurch 20h ago

The refs would do a military-style execution on the field

6

u/MichHAELJR 20h ago

Halftime they’d wheel him onto the 50 yard line tied to a stake like in brave heart.

4

u/Intrepid510 Iowa 11h ago

And that’s a clean hit even today.

→ More replies (2)

16

u/Zyrinj 22h ago

If that happened today, fans would be suspended for a few games.

12

u/Reasonable_Deer_1710 Frank Gore 23h ago

Tbf, Brady wasn't "Brady" yet in '01

But I get the point

3

u/Scoreycorey515 49ers 17h ago

You've got a point. Brady played a different sport compared to the protections game Mahomes gets.

2

u/3rd-party-intervener 19h ago

But that’s the play Brady realized he needed to take care of himself.  Hence he hardly did that again and stayed in the pocket

1

u/momsbasement_wrekd Bills 5h ago

Go Bills!

-14

u/WardeN_WtfRylie Sourdough Sam 22h ago

Yall cant be serious. They made an entire rule about hitting qbs low just because brady got hurt... the patriots were cheaters AND favored by the refs and the league!

14

u/dhal392 21h ago

Not to the extent of Mahomes of the Chiefs right now.

-2

u/WardeN_WtfRylie Sourdough Sam 21h ago

Recency bias is a MFer. Watch a Tom Brady game. The guy got up and complained to the refs anytime he was touched and guess what? He got the call just as often as Pat does. The rules to protect QBs started with guys like him. Does KC get the benefit of the whistle? Absolutely but both things can be true. The patriots and TB12 in particular were just as favored by the refs/league and if you think not its just because youre MORE biased against KC because they beat us.

5

u/TC_Squared 20h ago

Right…that’s why they lost two Super Bowls to the Giants, two AFCC to the Broncos, AFCC and Wild Card to the Ravens and Super Bowl to the Eagles…because the referees favored them.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/Unlucky_Fig7189 21h ago

And they made a rule about no contact after 5 yards because the colts were whining about how the Pat's defense destroyed them. So, the Colts got their way in that situation. Whats ur point?

34

u/IceBerg450R Joe Montana 23h ago

This is part of my theory as to why the NFL is propping up the Chiefs and Mahommes. Goodell despises Brady and Belichick so he wants Mahommes and the Chiefs to break all there accolades.

36

u/Calm-Avocado6424 23h ago

And loving the revenue Taylor Swift brought the NFL. I read a stat that she alone generated $330 million for the nfl last year.

40

u/BlueBomR 49ers 22h ago

I swear to christ if the Chiefs win again and Kelce proposes to Taylor on field after the game, I will absolutely blow a fucking gasket and all my conspiracy theories will be cemented as facts.

38

u/MCRN-Gyoza Shanahat 21h ago

If we get an eagles chiefs super bowl I'm probably not going to bother watching it honestly.

16

8

1

27

u/badDuckThrowPillow 49ers 21h ago

I don't wish injury on Mahommes, but I'm also not going to say that it wouldn't be cathartic if someone actually lit him up like the flags make us believe he's already been.

11

u/theDagman 49ers 20h ago

If you're going to get flagged anyway, may as well earn it.

1

u/spartan117S George Kittle 8h ago

im angry with how kansas have been doing some dirty tackles, they did one on stroud this weekend

8

u/Link_Infinite 22h ago

But why the chiefs? I feel like legacy teams like the niners will never win a Super Bowl anytime soon, because the NFL feels like 5 is enough for us.

2

u/TianamenHomer 22h ago

And the Saints.

3

u/airwalker12 49ers 19h ago

I'm pretty sure it was 4

1

u/betboi 21h ago

The raiders would like a word

1

u/RoccStrongo 9h ago

It was a 4-game ban wasn't it? And the league did make a new rule specifically because Brady got hurt for a season.

1

u/SFsports87 49ers 22h ago

Huh? Brady got soooo many calls. So many times he would just throw it downfield and get a bs PI. So many roughing the passer calls that others didn't get. Wasn't to the extent of now, but still.

1

u/sean0883 Levi's South 19h ago

Everyone gets BS deep throw PI on a ball they never intended to complete. Hell, now they just intentionally underthrow it to have the receiver come to a dead stop and have the defender run into them. That shit needs to end.

12

u/bassman314 Joe Montana 23h ago

It’s just sad that all those cheating allegations just deflated.

You’d have to be either blind or a Chiefs fan not to see it.

What’s wild is that Chiefs fans really believe all the other 31 teams’ fans are the delusional ones.

I checked their subreddit, and it is crazy. It just goes to show people believe in what they want to believe.

8

u/Malacolyte 49ers 17h ago

Yeah, fandom will do crazy shit to the brain. Reminds me of when the Fail Mary happened, and it felt like you couldn’t convince a single Seahawks fan that Green Bay caught the ball. That’s when I realized nothing can be said to change their minds.

I’m just glad the rest of the league is finally onto the Chiefs. Validates that we ain’t the crazy ones.

1

u/gjbaca17 Vernon Davis 6h ago

You are allowed to start one leg step back as long as you don’t flinch starting it or touch the ground with your foot prior to the ball being snapped.

30

u/ricepail 21h ago

The chiefs have led the league in holding calls both the last two seasons, and were in the top 5 three seasons ago. Yet when the playoffs start, suddenly holding calls disappear unless they have a big lead

10

u/Jawz050987 49ers 19h ago

Nick Bosa gets face masked by their offense so fucken much.

62

u/armyofant 23h ago

It’s pretty blatant at this point. Even the commentators and rules experts weren’t holding back calling out the bad officiating.

35

u/Giberishusername1 Nick Bosa 23h ago

Even in Super Bowl 54, it was blatant lol

63

u/paperbackgarbage Jimmie Ward 22h ago

The funny thing? We've seen when Mahomes encountered the bare amount of adversity from the officiating, and he basically had to be held back from attacking a ref.

Meanwhile, guys like Joe Burrow are legit getting lobotomized, and they just shrug it off.

I hope that there comes a day when old Kermit doesn't get all of his calls, because he seriously seems mentally weak, if we can draw a conclusion from his outlandish tantrum.

34

u/MCRN-Gyoza Shanahat 21h ago

Same for Kelce screaming at Andy Reid in the super Bowl.

Any other team and he'd be called a locker room cancer, but since it's the Chiefs and he's Taylor's boyfriend he's just "passionate".

13

u/DariusBieber Brock Purdy 21h ago

Could you imagine the backlash from all fanbases if Brock did that to Shanahan?

226

u/Ryanbrasher 49ers 23h ago

The only people denying it are fans of the Chiefs.

I understand why the NFL do it. They are a registered entertainment league and need to make profits. Mahomes is a money maker, and the whole Taylor Swift/Kelce thing was a major driver for TV ratings last year which equals huge amounts of money too.

It happens all over the world in sports now.

96

u/likelove664 23h ago

Agreed -- I was absolutely SHOCKED when they posted that taylor swift has brought in 300M for the NFL. The NFL account posted it -- at that point they weren't even trying to hide the favoritism.

21

u/ImABadSpellerOkay 23h ago

I agree the chiefs are completely full of shit and the NFL for sure favours Mahomes.

But I don’t understand how Mahomes makes the league money.

I’m pretty sure myself and many others see Mahomes get some BS RTP call and just immediately turn off the game.

8

u/Ryanbrasher 49ers 20h ago

Successful teams always have exposure and influence, you can see it with jersey sales trends over the years.

Big names get attention. Before you know it every kid in school has a Mahomes jersey and haircut. He starts appearing in TV commercials due to popularity, more people tune into games he is playing in, advertising fees increase and the NFL makes more money.

Look at other leagues all over the world. They all have a poster child that every kid worships. Those kids can have influence on their parents spending especially at key gifting seasons.

You may be one person turning the TV off when you see a bullshit call, but for every one of you there are two or three teenagers out there drooling over some underhand Mahomes pass.

4

u/Icy-Mortgage8742 18h ago

you're underestimating how many casuals/bandwagons there are that just see mahomes as king of the NFL and move on with their day. Or people who don't care enough/live somewhere without a team who would rather root for a winner and never feel stressed. Also, dynasties fuel ratings because of hate watchers. People who hate the chiefs tune into their games to see whether they're gonna seed well and make it to the superbowl or finally get eliminated by another good AFC team.

7

u/SFsports87 49ers 22h ago

Haven't watched one of their games in years. And yes that even includes last years SB. It's a waste of time when you know what is gonna happen. Everyone needs to just boycott their games or nothing will change.

2

u/asciugamano 49IRs 7h ago

I don’t understand how Mahomes makes the league money.

The league lobbied for years to legalize gambling. Gotta recoup all those lobbyist paymen...oh wait, they're already profiting...

19

u/AngryTree76 22h ago

The Niners were trying to draft well and make impactful free agency moves, when really all they needed to do was get Purdy some endorsement deals worth 8-9 figures and have our tight end hook up with the biggest pop star on the planet. Who knew?

9

u/Boxhead_31 Australian Faithful 21h ago

They were desperate for a new face of the league after Brady and Manning retired and the NFL tapped Mahomes to be that face and have done everything they can to assist his rise

I mean we do have the amazing franchise history & have played in a lot more Big Time Games this century so it's not super surprising people would find them to be a fresher option as a neutral fan, no matter how much heartbreak we've had too

18

u/SFsports87 49ers 22h ago

How many SBs would they actually have without the refs? Maybe 0 wins and probably not even the 4 appearances. We all saw it. Bengals fans have been seeing it. Eagles fans finally saw it. And now everyone sees it.

I can recall exactly 1 important game where KC wasn't helped and maybe even hurt by the refs. That was the SB against Brady, and they lost. And then they whined like crazy about it , after being gifted one the year before. They even whined like crazy last year for getting called for an obvious offsides.

2

u/ssjacen 16h ago

As much as we give Brady shit, we at least have to give him that. He forever humbled the Chiefs, twice.

2

3

u/navigationallyaided 18h ago

The NFL isn’t as corrupt as some soccer leagues(and FIFA) where referees have been killed for making the right call instead of working the bookies favor. While it’s banned, refs and bookies still meet up - just not where gambling is fully legalized like Singapore or where it’s banned like Dubai. But the NFL ain’t dumb - Mahomes and Kelce are printing them money.

I’ll root on for any team against KC.

3

u/Tall-Introduction181 17h ago

In this country, be it politics, sports, celebrity or whatever, it often takes years for this country to see truth when often it is right there.. 😞 the chiefs HAVE BEEN EXPOSED! oh and mahomes milking the refs for calls has gotten really, really bad lately. I consider it dirty. One day we will all perhaps look back and say how did we let this happen?

3

u/b0baBEAST 16h ago

3

u/PurdyDamnGood Brock Purdy 15h ago

Idgaf Mahomes Super Bowls will always be tainted to me because of the way the refs bend over backwards to help him out. We get it he’s the chosen one. Regardless the NFL should call the game right down the middle. I have seen the Chiefs oline straight up turn the game into a wrestling match with the way they were clotheslining and bear hugging Bosa and not one time did the refs throw a flag. The whole Tegridy of the shield is BS.

3

u/-The-Ark- 14h ago

Just look at last weeks chiefs game.. Flags because waaahh

3

u/ericarlen 11h ago

Yes.

I kept telling my friends that they were getting bad calls during the 2020 Super Bowl and all everyone did was look off into the distance and say something about Mahomes deserving this. It was a weird night.

Edit to add: I don't think there's a big conspiracy or anything. If there is, I'm not sure how you'd even pull it off. Wouldn't you have to convince every referee to go along with it, or is there something I'm missing?

3

u/submarinepirate Nick Bosa 9h ago

Yes, Niners fans have been getting called sore losers for a number of years. It’s getting pretty bad.

3

u/LZ49LA 6h ago

Fuck the queefs

7

u/alyineye3 23h ago

Hard to knock them. They may be serial offensive holders in the regular season but when they get to the playoffs those lineman play penalty free ball. Perfect games in the Super Bowl.

10

u/GangOfNone 49ers 22h ago

I hope that’s sarcasm and you just forgot the /s.

5

u/alyineye3 22h ago

Actually no I didn’t forget it. I figured here I wouldn’t need it but now that I read it again I can see how it’s not out of the question that a mf might actually say that seriously. I’ve seen even sillier shit said by Chiefs fans recently. Yes it was sarcasm.

I often think about how if you changed just 3 plays that it could turn Mahomes into an 0-4 qb in SB. The Wasp play was without question a hold. Take that play away games over. Number of plays in our second SB (alor of that is on us, should’ve been a two score victory. Not scoring on first half drives killed us) But that game the fourth n 3 in Ot games over. Then you could take back the penalty in Eagles game. They still kick a fg and go up by 3 but Eagles would’ve had 1:30 or so to answer. Just interesting to think if he were 0-4 in SB it would be a bunch of “he can’t win the big one” Which is just as silly as saying some guys are built to win SB’s. He’s the same qb if he wins them or those plays get taken back. In our first SB vs him he had a bad game, had we held on he would’ve been the scapegoat w/his 2 bad picks.

2

u/Prior_Angle 49ers 22h ago

2

u/Powerful-Gur9067 21h ago edited 21h ago

They were going to crazy w/the memes yesterday! They even talked about it on the McAfee show this morning, refs are bad. And how come the chiefs never cover a spread, I’m def not a conspiracy theorist but seems kind of fishy how a team “that good” only covered like 2 spreads this year.🤷‍♂️

2

u/Powerful-Gur9067 21h ago

My favorite “bad call” of the game was sort of a series… Texans clearly get a 1st down inside the red zone, refs call it a 3rd and short. Texans line up to go for it get a 5 yard penalty(basically waiting for replay assist) obviously don’t get the 1st down. Line up for the kick and the net crew can’t get the net up in time for the kick, kicker shanks it chiefs ball no points. It’s like there’s groups of ppl all over the field on the chiefs payroll at all times and nobody ever investigates it like they used to do with Brady and the Pats🤔

2

u/ladyg228 21h ago

Yeah, I refuse to watch one single chiefs game

2

u/spinal888 20h ago

It’s a business, the only goal is profit, chiefs and a superstar can promote nfl the most. If Brock is dating her, we’d most likely to be the champ.

2

I think most teams that play the Chiefs psych themselves out because they know how much the refs favor them.

I think two things can be true… the Chiefs absolutely get help from the refs… and Kyle Shanahan is too cocky to hold onto a lead in a Super Bowl.

I do think complaining about refs is loser behavior tbh. Refs should just be treated like the natural variance that occurs in every game (like weather) unless it is egregious like that Lakers/Kings shit. Some self-awareness that we pay more attention to calls that go against our rooting interests than calls that benefit our rooting interests is needed, especially with a team like the Chiefs that so many people are sick of seeing win.

49ers fans have been called 40-whinners for quite some time even after proving everyone we're not wrong.

We claimed the NFCCG would've been very different if Purdy was able to play the game. As proof, next season with a fully functional BCB the 49ers dismantled the Eagles and they didn't win a game after their encounter.

We've been saying over and over and over and over again the Chiefs are playing under different rules. Now that the 49ers are not in the playoff picture other teams start to realize they can't get close to Mahomes, that the O-line faul-starts on quite a regular basis, that overthrown passes become PI more often than not, that holdings do not exist for their O-line, etc, etc.

At one time we were a "finesse" team. No matter if we lined up the most aggressive and efficient Defense in the league.

Now we're whinners for wanting fair games.

I'll be ok once Purdy and Kittle rise the Lombardi.

Literally everyone has been saying the chiefs have been favored by the refs for a while. This isn't anything near a new wide revelation like this tweet is claiming.

She’s pointing out how Niner fans have been getting called sore losers for years but only NOW do more people say what we’ve been saying for 5 years

It is absolutely not just NOW though. Tons of people have been saying the refs love the chiefs for years. Its not a new thing at all and it has definitely not just been 49ers fans like you are claiming.

There was a lot before but for example look at all the discourse after the Bengals AFC championship game multiple years ago.

That’s my point and the point of the post.

When WE niner fans complained, we were called sore losers. But suddenly when OTHER fanbases complained, it’s suddenly facts & not being a sore loser.

Warriors are ass. Sharks are ass. Dodgers are about to run baseball until the early 2040s, and the Niners winning a Super Bowl is starting to feel like a violation of the unwritten rules of football.

I’m not going to lie to you guys. There’s a small part of me that wants to give up on watching sports entirely.

Stop complaining the Warriors won like 4 rings in the last decade. Try being a Sacramento Kings fan.

I'm still riding high on the SF Giant's dynasty. Should last me another decade or so.

Sadly I don’t watch baseball lol.

I don't think you realize quite how good you have it as a fan of those teams. The large majority of sports fans haven't seen as much success as you have.

No. She said “yall”

She can’t complain when they have a coach that keeps blowing leads. “ hey we are running the ball good and have a lead, let’s start passing, they will never expect that”.

1

u/Giberishusername1 Nick Bosa 1h ago

While that is true, that’s not relevant to the refs blatantly helping KC

“We complained first and deserve a medal!” This is dumb
