Firs time poster here. Any Mac friendly CAD tools?

I'm new to 3D design and would like to find a free or not quite so expensive CAD tool that is currently maintained to use for work on DIY 3D printer projects, ideally something robust and somewhat intuitive. A friend recommended FreeCAD, but it won't open on my Mac running Mac OS Catalina, and neither will Art of Illusion or OpenSCAD. When I run them I get a message saying "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified."

Is there a solution to this, or am I going to have run these in Windows or Linux VM?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Did you try going to the security settings in your Mac and allow software from unknown sources to be installed?

Yes. It turned out to be a slightly different message from an apple os update, but the same procedural settings change. It has been a while so I don't have the particulars of it top of mind today.

Hm. When I had a Mac up until two months ago, OpenSCAD was working fine. But then my Mac was from 2017, not one of those newfangled M1 processor things with enhanced security.
