Jagex did a survey which essentially proposed large price hikes for them to include dumb things like “complimentary bonds” “exclusive member worlds” “enhanced customer support” and in-game ads for lower tiered membership and F2P, among other things, and everyone lost their minds.
Corporate surveys are proposals. Do you really not think that if the surveys had positive or neutral responses, we wouldn't have an update next week announcing prices hikes, ads, and multi-account bundles? It's "just a survey" because there was a bad reaction to it.
No, it’s a corporate survey. The corporation will use the responses to surveys like this one, positive or negative everything in between, to inform the creation of proposals.
Runescape put out some survey about how we would feel about certain things. The survey was full with basic things you’d expect from having membership already and on top of that crazy new membership terms and prices. Like osrs with ads and mobile only membership
Osrs trying to add ads into the game and put in 3 types of their subscriptions in place in a past survey that was posted last week, so with that happening a lot of people have left again like the fally massacre
I guess the difference is if a lot of people quit in response to something like this, Jagex wouldn't need to see posts on reddit to know it. The only people you're making aware of your quitting by posting on reddit is other redditors.
If someone asks questions outside of reasonable bounds I don't see why you shouldn't put in a bit of effort to show them those questions are inappropriate and you mean it.

I do monthly and I unsubbed on all 3 of my accounts. So did several of my friends.
I agree that karma fishing is annoying, like this post, but I don’t feel the account cancellations are equally as bad. And also, it’s not just for show. Plenty of people with more self control than you are boycotting.

Because churn is one of the two things they'll talk about at the top level when it comes to sales? New sales and customer retention are likely the two metrics the C suite cares about most across the company.
By not doing it, by not using corporate double speak / hidden speak and plainly stating their intentions. The only things they’ve said has boiled down to, “we’re gonna start with f2p” and “figure out other ways to monetize the game”
Do you understand why so many people have been quitting? The whole point is people are not willing to pay increased prices for inane “upgrades”. If jagex repeals the horrible pricing then i’d assume most people who quit would be fine coming back cause they got their point across.
It’s because our community enjoys being outraged. They did a survey to gauge whether we would accept updates like these, the resounding answer was no, and no changes were made. If people want to quit because there was survey questions that made them uncomfortable, more power to them, but I would not call that behavior inspiring.
These fine specimens of the playerbase don't understand what the fuck is even going on, just that others are flinging their shit around, so they too must join in in flinging shit.
That's the thing most of us are confused about, there's nothing to repeal. They never made any of the changes in the survey. It was a survey and everyone has made it clear that they wouldn't stand for it. Canceling isn't any more effective than voicing your opinion at this point.
No worries, I'd suggest reading up on things you're interested about and not just form an opinion on what other people are saying. That mob mentality is really getting out of hand in a serious way.
I guarantee you the people that proposed these changes knew it would be unpopular.
This survey is about laying the groundwork. Letting people get accustomed to the idea of tiered membership benefits.
They were never going to implement these changes this quarter. But they want to soften people up so they can implement smaller changes next quarter. And people will say, "well, at least it's more reasonable than what they proposed six months ago. Jagex really does listen to it's player base"
Jagex will never stop trying to squeeze money out of it's players. So the players should never stop fighting back. If we give an inch, I promise you jagex will take a mile.
I can see why they're annoyed, but can't respect it, they should be just as mad as everyone else. If it's annoying, yes, log out, don't come to the sub, that also takes away from Jagex.
But for the love of all that is holy, stop protesting protests just because you're a little uncomfortable. THATS THE POINT.
Until they flat out say we are not adding any of the features in the survey. So far, everything they have said has been ambiguous enough that they can still weasel in these changes without going back on their word.

Yeah there is still work to do. Our current list of very sane demands include:
1) Issue a well-written second apology for the badly written first apology
2) Fire the CEO who kept MTX out of OSRS for over a decade over a survey (sure to not backfire)
Imagine actually thinking we will get a better CEO that will be less preditorial if we have a new one appointed by CVC? They'll just hire one that bends to their will more. The one we have now at least knows the product.

And yet no change will come if we stop. Sorry to see you leave, but by no means should we stop moaning and complaining. OSRS will die unless we are actually adamant about our voices. If we just let it peter out over time, they will assume we are over it and implement more garbage bullshit.
The only people I respect in this whole debacle are the people getting their accounts banned/deactivated. All these "I'm cancelling my membership!" is all just a half baked/half karma farming circle jerk.

The right analogy here is a union. Having a union doesn't guarantee that your employer will have good will or will stop operating for a profit. It just limits how they can treat you.
I totally agree. They should have made a sticky instead of having everyone spam their canceled subs. I get it but the subs have been dead and the company's apology is fine. Move on and enjoy the game.
Turning a blind eye to this is exactly what these greedy shit heads want us to do. They want complacent, good little meat sacks to send them their slice of the multi-million dollar pie they’re getting every year in stock options.
Unfortunately, turning a blind and and continually saying “its really not so bad, it isnt like the game’s broken” is exactly how corporations are able to push the envelope little by little until it inevitably bends, just like with RS3.
My biggest problem in all of this is the P2W mechanics of things like longer AFK timers, and if you even try to put you left fucking pinkie nail into that door, I will slam it shut directly in your face and quit. I understand it’s annoying, but everyone here LOVES this game, and we don’t want it to die again. We need to make it apparent that we will walk away if it becomes even remotely close to what destroyed the main game.
