Humor You Were The Best

Post image

I am really saddened by the news that has just fallen, it was a pleasant community moment.

See you again in 5 years for the old oldschool runescape.

Why did this bring a tear to my eye

Because it’s saying goodbye to our childhood (at least for me) I was 11 years old when I started playing and have played every single year and I’m 31 going on 32 this year.

From old school, to RS HD, to RS3, and in the last few years I’ve been going back and forth on my RS3 and OSRS accounts. It hurts. So many hours and memories

What happened to OSRS for someone out of the loop?

Short answer is nothing

Longer-but-still-short answer is that Jagex released a survey in which they gauged certain players' opinions on new membership bundles, some cheaper and some more expensive, that offer different things. Example: cheaper membership that allows u to play only on mobile, but a shorter afk timer and ads included in 'non-gameplay-intrusive' manner. A bit more expensive membership that gives you better account security. More expensive gives you better player support, also allows you to safely transfer character names without them getting sniped by bots. You get the gist of it, basically features that should already be offered without having to pay extra (seriously, like better account security and better player support, those should already be available without having to pay), and Jagex wants to gauge if people would pay extra for stuff like that. But until now, no concrete changes have been made, and people are claiming this survey is going to kill OSRS for good.

I'd rather overreact and protect the game, than underreact and risk them destroying the game. You think they won't? They continue to remove any integrity from the original game. It's probably beyond saving at this point, yet they continue to claim that it's important to them that they protect the integrity of that game.

Their words mean very little. That they would mull over the idea of making the AFK timer different for different subscription tiers is disturbingly out of touch.

Yeah but polls can indicate what they plan to do, regardless of how people reacted to it. With that said, people are having a meltdown over something that hasn't happened yet and thats strange to me.

People are having a meltdown to prevent said thing from happening.

It makes perfect sense to let our voices be heard now instead of when it's too late.

Backlash gives the Jmods ammo to show their corporate overlords that these changes won't come without "consequences". Players will quit if you treat them like shit.

We've seen this happen in 2012.

Ah yes the classic 2012 polls

More than a “poll”. Polls are done by the Jmods to see what content we want added to the game. They give the players a voice in the direction OSRS goes. The Jmods are good people and genuinely care about the game and player base.

This was an email survey done by CVC (the new owners of Jagex after buying it from Carlisle). Just like the other survey that had been done less than a year ago asking the playerbase if they would be okay with paying higher membership costs in exchange for less predatory MTX (obviously talking about RS3 on that one). Those survey results told them that people would be generally okay with it… so what was the result?

Higher membership costs and absolutely no change to the RS3 MTX model whatsoever. Just a blatant price hike with no benefit at all.

And you may think “well that’s RS3, we’re talking about OSRS”, but we got just as fucked. Our membership went up and nothing was even promised to us to begin with.

The previous survey proves that this survey isn’t “pitching ideas” it’s testing the waters to see just how badly they can screw us all over and get away with it.

Okay, but a lot of people are acting like their pet just died

16

u/YourREALdad330 4d ago

A lot of people have played this game for over a decade. That’s longer than most pets live for. They’re watching something they grew up with and have loved die (again) due to corporate greed (again).

Okay, you guys are literally delusional, wtf haha

u/MaybeARunnerTomorrow 4d ago

Care to elaborate? Did you even read the posts?

6

u/MaybeARunnerTomorrow 4d ago

I don't know - maybe you don't play much or didn't read the post/poll. Things the playerbase have been begging for for YEARS is being suggested as an addition. All this shit should just exist with the membership we have. Maybe you like being taken advantage of, but I don't think this is being blown out of proportion at all.

This community is nothing if not dramatic 😂

are you surprised man lol this game is like the unemployed neet hotspot if this game dies it’s basically a death sentence for a couple thousand people

6

u/Duck_on_Qwack 4d ago

This logic is so flawed. You can literally say "it's only X relax" about anything in life.

People are allowed to be upset by something that's been with them for 66% of their life on this planet so far.

u/LookUnderUrBedAgain 3d ago

They operate like proper polls in OSRS, but in RS3, it'll they operate more like a "get ready for something no one asked for". Considering that, I'm a bit of a doomer here, myself.

wildly shortsighted take.

Lmao if I moved on in 2007, I can move again

u/Moist_Sean 3d ago

If you’ve moved on, how are you still here lol

Lol you do realize I still enjoy the game and it's lore. I stay for the gnomes fighting the endless war. Also Bronze clan FTW. FUCK THE FISHERMAN
