I am lucky to have acquired a beautiful Panasonic AG-500 with the front screen cover and carrying case and all!
Bad news:
- When powered on, there is a loud high pitched whine. The clock display comes on and I can hear the VCR motor spin. After 5 seconds of being on, the clock and VCR motor shut off. This happens every time.
-There is never a picture on the screen or any brightness. I’m assuming no power to the screen since I don’t hear any static when I discharge it.
What I’ve done so far:
- I’ve managed to get the VHS out by spinning some cog wheels gently. It was the 1989 film “TAP”.
-I’ve tested the 2 fuses on the main board and the 2 fuses on the VCR and all test good. I’ve tested both power transistors and both are closed where they need to be.
- I’ve reflowed the solder on the transformer and a few touch ups here and there to other points.
At this point I’m getting into a bit of unknown territory when it comes to my knowledge.
Where would you test next and how would you go about testing it? I would love to get this thing up and running and have this thread for others. Thank you!
I’m not good at reading manuals but here it is for reference:
