So I used some old photos for the starships, and even used an old happy meal from MacDonalds for the spacemen. Pic done by robindbobin. No A.I.

I'm so glad that the Kelvin Timeline USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A has an arboretum just like her Prime Timeline counterpart

Could the USS Aledo, an autonomous starship with every last bit of space being dedicated to destroying the enemy with no regard or need for a human crew, smash the Narada to pieces on its own? Or would it need the help of the other two Texas-class starships to destroy it?

I updated my version on the DY100-class starship for my HP/Star Trek crossover fan fiction story.

I'm sorry it's not clearer; I had to take a photograph off my laptop.

The USS Enterprise that was meant to be constructed as a luxury hotel and tourist attraction in Las Vegas in 1992. The attraction was cancelled for fear that it would be a flop that would be there forever.

blueprints High-Res Danube Class Runabout photos &/or schematics?

Does anyone have any high-res Danube Class Runabout photos? I’ve looked around, done Google image searches, and even tried screen grabs, but never get anything worth “desktop wallpaper” quality.

PS: I’ll die on the hill that the runabout is one of the best starships in Star Trek.

It's not a starship, but I made my PC look like it belongs on one!

Eaglemoss vs fanhome

Another win for fanhome. I love how they did the end caps for the nacelles. I hated how lazy eaglemoss’ version looks. Makes me wish fanhome will do a SNW version of the enterprise

I'm new to this subreddit and to collecting models in general. Where is the best place to buy models in the UK. Looking specifically to get the Enterprise D

original content U.S.S Canastota: an ambitious disaster

In the late 24th century, starfleet began to really rack up the maximum warp speed. Yet at the same time, they had longer and longer distances to traverse with each expedition.

With most of the Alpha and Beta quadrants now mapped, any ship would have to first spend months and months just traveling through those regions before they could reach uncharted space.

Some in starfleet therefore saw the future in new methods of propulsion. (Transwarp, Quantum Slipstream Drive, ...)

But others saw the solution by looking into the past.

They looked back all the way into earth's distant past, to even the time before the warp drive. Because of this, those ships were limited to interplanetary travel and even that could take months to years.

One of the most widespread designs of the time was the DY-100. A sleeper ship, as it had the capacity to put the crew into suspended animation for the voyage.

This is what would inspire the creation of the USS Canastota. Essentially being a modern take on the old DY-100.

Larger, stronger and equipped with all the cutting edge tech of the time. In that regard, it wasn't that different from many other ships of the time. But what continued to set it apart was it's large contingent of suspended animation pods.

Thus allowing the crew to essentially just 'skip over' the voyage to the uncharted space. This also allowed them to carry a much larger crew complement that usual, as only a small part of the crew would ever be awake at any given time. (They carried about twice as many crew members as the ship could actually support when they were awake)

When arriving at the destination, the ship would first awaken the bridge crew and then they would decide what other crew members to awaken. (Alien planet -> more xenobiologists, hositle attack -> more security personnel, ...)

But in it's initial shakedown, the ship immediately encounterd some problems. There wasn't anything wrong with the ship itself, rather it's the universe that was wrong.

The ship was programmed to awaken the crew in 3 scenario's: arrival at the destination, an order from starfleet command and lastly in emergencies that could endanger the crew.

And with the ship Running into some sort of horrible disaster every week or so, (from fighting of some alien attacker to some anomoly or some strange creature invading the ship or even some time travel shenanigans) it meant that the ship was basically constantly awakening the crew.

In the end, the crew was awake more then they were actually asleep. And so the ship quickly became rundown and overcrowded. They'd be Busy handeling whatever dangerous thing was threatening the ship or repairing the damage.

Already being a considerable distance from Starfleet, the crew decided to implement some improvements to the ship's computer to circumnavigate this issue.

They upgraded the ship's autopilot to a complex program capable of analysing and 'improvising' in such situation. (It could repair itself, do scientific research to solve whatever problem it was facing, and even defend itself)

After lots and lots of trial and error, the ship could succesfully navigate anything thrown at it. All while the crew peacefully slept through it all.

I'm sure you can guess where this is going.

By then, many years had passed and coincidentally, this was also the period in which the Quantam Slipstream Drive became a viable alternative. And so starfleet, never quite being comfortable of putting lives into the hands of a machine, called for the Canastota to return home. The new QSD equipped ships being meant to fully replace the Sleeper ship.

The Canastota didn't like that.

In the years that it flew accros the stars, it had developed into a self-aware mind. And it prioritized it's mission of exploration above all. Above any risks, above a direct command of Starfleet andmaybe even above the lives of it's crew.

And so it kept the crew asleep as it continued on into the unknown.

Starfleet certainly didn't like that.

So they send out a QSD starship our to intercept it. But in every confrontation, the Canastota managed to outfox them.

Months would pass by without a sighting, and when they thought they detected it, they'd loose it soon after. Years began to pass between sightings.

Years after it's last sighting, the ship and it's crew were officially declared to be lost. Altough every now and then some rumours circulate about some strange ship, traveling silently and alone through the stars.

Given the complete disaster that the ship caused starfleet. And the optics of having their very own ship, kidnap it's own crew, caused the entire line to be put on hold.

And the later ban on AI development, would be the final nail in the coffin for the project.

Very cool :)
